Haddon Township and Gateway, rivals in the Colonial Conference Patriot Division, each suffered losses to Central Jersey teams yesterday in the semifinals of the NJSIAA state baseball tournament.

Bill Joyce homered for Haddon Township, but it was the only run allowed by Shore Regional (19-7) pitcher Rob Corsi in the Blue Devils' 4-1 Group 2 victory at New Egypt.

Corsi struck out 13 Hawks (24-5), and was supported by Todd Juliano's two-run homer in the fifth inning off Haddon Township's Andrew Noon (6-1), who picked up his first loss of the season.

State Group 1. David Brearley spotted Gateway an early 1-0 lead before rallying to win, 6-2, at Rider University.

The Gators (17-6), with five hits off winning pitcher Jim Stafford, managed single runs in the fourth and seventh innings. Stafford also drove in a run in the game.

In Brearley's (16-6) fourth inning, Josh Manto and Mike Minniti singled in runs, and another scored on a ground ball to provide a 3-1 advantage.

Brearley will face Park Ridge in the state championship at a site and time to be determined this weekend.
