Engineers' Brown among local signees

Marcus Brown, a senior at Engineering and Science, has accepted a scholarship to play basketball at East Stroudsburg University. The 6-foot-4 guard and forward was named to the all-state first team by the Associated Press last season and finished his career with 1,107 points.

At Spring-Ford, senior Ashley Wood signed to play basketball at Kutztown University. A three-sport athlete - she plays basketball, lacrosse, and field hockey - Wood was team captain in all three sports as a senior.

The King's College football program announced the addition of three local players: Father Judge's Matthew Schule, Bishop McDevitt's John McCormick, and Lansdale Catholic's Kevin Miller.

Schule is a 6-1, 205-pound all-Catholic League center who served as captain for the Crusaders last season. His older brother, Jim, will be a senior captain for the King's men's basketball team in 2009-10.

McCormick is a 5-11, 228-pound all-Catholic League center and defensive end.

Miller is a 5-10, 195-pound guard, defensive tackle, and linebacker. The three-year letter winner was named to the all-Catholic second team last season.

At Malvern Prep, Matt McCullough will run cross-country and track for Cornell, and Matt Willcox will run for the University of Scranton.

Both runners were members of the Inter-Ac League's cross-country championship teams in 2006, '07 and '08, and the league's track and field championship teams in '08 and '09.

Malvern Prep was undefeated in Inter-Ac cross-country dual meets during their tenures.

DelGrande chosen. Chestnut Hill Academy has named Michael J. DelGrande as its athletic director.

DelGrande, previously the director of boys' athletics at the Bullis School in Potomac, Md., replaced Mark Burke, who will be moving to Switzerland with his family after five years on the job at Chestnut Hill Academy.
