When college coaches speak with Bridgeton coach Dave Ellen about all-South Jersey linebacker Rashaun Smith, they use two words to sum him up: "shock value."
"When he hits, he brings it all the time, even in practice," said Ellen, who is excited about the four-year starter's final season in the middle, as well as on the offensive line at guard.
Smith had 116 tackles and eight sacks last year. His speed enables him to fly to the ball and his conditioning permits him to run sideline-to-sideline and play offense and defense superbly.
Now the 18-year-old wants to do more.
"I want more tackles, more sacks, more of everything," said Smith, who added that Pittsburgh, James Madison, Rutgers, Syracuse and West Virginia are interested in him. "My team has shock value, too. We just haven't shown anybody yet."
