VanDorick's pair of goals lift Abington over U. Dublin

Ryan VanDorick used his head with spectacular results in a boys' nonleague soccer game yesterday. VanDorick headed two balls into the goal and led Abington past host Upper Dublin, 3-1. The Galloping Ghosts are ranked fourth in the Southeastern Pennsylvania Soccer Coaches Association poll and the Cardinals are unranked.

VanDorick headed two balls into the goal and led Abington past host Upper Dublin, 3-1. The Galloping Ghosts are ranked fourth in the Southeastern Pennsylvania Soccer Coaches Association poll and the Cardinals are unranked.

VanDorick scored his goals five minutes apart in the first half to give Abington a 2-0 lead. His first goal came off a direct kick by Matt Monheit, and his second converted a throw-in by Ian McMillan.

Ian Smith scored for Upper Dublin.

In other nonleague games:

Kory Reddick converted a header by Remi Mark into a goal one minute into the second half, and Pottsgrove held on to beat visiting Octorara, 2-1.

Austin Ewars also scored for the Falcons, who grabbed a 2-0 lead. Kyle Ferrier tallied for the Braves who got seven saves from Josh Wolff. Brandon Novitski stopped eight shots for Pottsgrove.

Alex Martins scored the second of his two goals with seven minutes left in a second overtime period to boost Lower Moreland to a 2-1 win over host Springfield (Montgomery County).

Martins scored his first goal in the first half when Kenny Ng scored for the Spartans. Pavo Szcznesiak stopped 16 shots for the Lions, while Bardia Nabate stopped 14 shots for Springfield.

Neshaminy used goals by Jared Campbell, Ricky Domico, Kyle Martinez, and Mike Schofield to beat host Wissahickon, 4-1.

Campbell, Domico and Schofield scored in the second half for the Redskins.

Frank Pileggi stopped seven shots for Hatboro-Horsham, and Dan Murphy turned aside eight shots for Council Rock South in a 0-0 tie at Hatboro-Horsham.

Ben Holl accounted for three goals and an assist for Friends Select in a 5-0 win over visiting Morrisville.

Holl scored his final goal in the 55th minute on a penalty kick.

Public. Willie Geebli scored in the first half, and Alpha Moseray added a second-half goal to lift Bartram to a 2-1 win over host Masterman.

Moseray scored 10 minutes into the second half to give the Maroon Wave a 2-0 lead.

Nuri Bokreta picked up a goal and an assist to lead Central past visiting Northeast, 3-0.

John Arguedas scored from 18 yards out with five minutes left in the game and handed Philadelphia Academy Charter a 2-1 win over host Fels.

Lincoln spread the scoring around and downed visiting Southern, 7-1.

Oliver Quispe paced the Railsplitters with a pair of goals.

Catholic Blue. Emmitt Filipelli scored with five minutes remaining in a second overtime period and handed Archbishop Carroll a 3-2 win over visiting Bishop McDevitt.

Brian Esterle scored 30 minutes into the game and Sean Rooney converted a penalty kick in the 50th minute to give Lansdale Catholic a 2-0 win over host Kennedy-Kenrick.

Matt Diliergro notched a hat trick and Eric Rodriguez collected three assists to lift Conwell-Egan past visiting Cardinal Dougherty, 9-0.

Mike Trodden stunned visiting Neumann-Goretti with a hat trick and two assists as Archbishop Wood dumped the Saints, 11-0.

Central. Tom Dejohn, Steve McGee and Lawrence Sobah each scored goals for Upper Darby in a 3-0 win over visiting Harriton.

Pioneer Athletic. Scott Shelton scored six minutes into the first of two overtime periods and handed Methacton a 2-1 win over visiting Perkiomen Valley.

Ricky Griffith assisted on the goal and scored one of his own with less than 10 minutes left in regulation to tie the game, 1-1.

Jake Harringer scored on a rebound in the 72d minute and lifted Spring-Ford to a 1-0 win over host Owen J. Roberts.

Harringer's shot went off the post, then into the net.

Drew Gray scored late in the first half and Paul Slegelmitch stopped six shots to give St. Pius X a 1-0 win over visiting Upper Perkiomen.

Efrain Govea earned a hat trick and sparked Phoenixville to an 8-0 win over visiting Pottstown.

Nonleague. Clayton Harris assisted on a pair of goals and Will Ruppenthal stopped eight shots to lead Plymouth Whitemarsh past host Chichester, 5-1.

Field Hockey

Washington used the Palmer method to author a neat 6-0 Public League field hockey win over visiting Franklin Towne Charter yesterday.

Kelsey Palmer was responsible for half of the Eagles' goals, two in the first half, as they jumped to a 4-0 lead. Hilary McFillin and Shanika Murray scored the other goals.

Talia Fish netted a pair of goals for host Central in a 4-0 win over Lincoln.

Siena Childs and Jasmin James each scored a pair of goals as Girls High overwhelmed host Rhodes, 7-0, scoring six first-half goals.

Catholic. Katie Killeen scored both of Cardinal O'Hara's first-half goals in a 5-0 win over visiting St. Hubert.

Sara Bauer had 15 saves in goal to lead host Archbishop Wood past Lansdale Catholic, 3-1. Meghan Leahy, Gina Francescangeli, and Alyssa Andress scored for the Vikings.

Catholic Academies. Jenna Seybert scored in overtime to give host Mount St. Joseph a 1-0 win over Merion Mercy. After Allie Sabia put the ball on the net, it was kicked out to Seybert, who alertly shot it past the sprawling Golden Bears goalie.

Sam Ostoich scored a pair of goals to pace host Villa Maria past Villa Joseph Marie, 9-0.

Kimmy Herman assisted on Kerri Crumlish's goal with 20 minutes left in the first half to give Sacred Heart a 1-0 win at Gwynedd-Mercy. Herman started the breakaway and Crumlish finished it off.

Del-Val. Laura Meehan's two goals paced Chichester to a 4-1 win at Penn Wood.

Nonleague. Katie DeGennaro assisted on the game's first goal and scored the final one for host Springside in a 3-0 win over Germantown Friends. In between, Libbie Maine scored for the Lions, who had 21 offensive corners and 15 shots on goal.

Kelly Pond's goal with 21:18 remaining in the second half gave Bristol a 2-2 tie playing on the rooftop field at Friends Select in Center City. Julie Wise also scored for the Warriors.

Taylor Sticklin's goal off a pass from Jill Phillips with 15 minutes left gave host Conestoga a 2-1 win over Upper Dublin. Emily Steck also scored for the Pioneers.

Girls' Soccer

Host Springside scored both goals in a 1-1 nonleague tie with Germantown Friends.

Huh?

An "own" goal gave the Tigers their only score in a game where all of the scoring came in the first half.

Theresa Shropshire was the nearest GFS player to the ball and she was credited with the goal. Nicole Lombardo scored for Springside.

In other nonleague games:

Meghan Ledwith, Emily Market, and Brianna Pletnick scored for Villa Joseph Marie in a 3-1 win at Boyertown.

Visiting Hill School rallied from a deficit to win at Notre Dame, 4-1, thanks to a natural hat trick by senior cocaptain Erica Gosnell.

Three second-half goals broke open a close game and gave Episcopal Academy a 4-1 win at rival Friends' Central. Alexa Buckley, Madison Craft, Taylor Trimble, and Kristina Zahan scored for the Churchwomen.

Ches-Mont. Bishop Shanahan needed second-half goals from Stephanie Byard and Molly McCracken to win at Coatesville, 2-1.

Central. Kasey Jakobowski and Gabe Wawro scored for host Harriton in a 2-1 win over Upper Darby.

Pioneer Athletic. Methacton scored three goals in a four-minute span in the first half and held on to beat visiting Perkiomen Valley, 3-2. Nicole Battista, Leanne Heuer, and Amanda Broderick scored. All three also had an assist.

Catholic Academies. Emily Irons scored 3 minutes, 54 seconds into the game and Brianne Lazevnick added a second-half insurance goal as host Gwynedd-Mercy outlasted Merion Mercy, 2-0.
