Bozzelli leads Dougherty past West Catholic, 4-1

Cardinal Dougherty's Joe Bozzelli made sure that the Cardinals would win their first boys' soccer game of the season by getting involved in each goal Dougherty scored yesterday.

Bozzelli scored a goal and assisted on three others as the Cardinals tripped visiting West Catholic, 4-1, in a Catholic League Blue Division game.

Mitchell Ballah chipped in with a goal and an assist while Bob Brumbach and Carey Thomas picked up single goals. Joe Smith scored for the Burrs, but Dougherty goalie Mike Bowling stopped 12 other shots.

The Cardinals are 1-5 overall and league while West dropped to 0-5, 1-5 overall.

Steve Bomineilo scored the lone goal of the game with 10 minutes left in the first half and Bishop McDevitt held on to beat visiting Neumann-Goretti, 1-0.

Matt DiLiegro collected the lone goal of the game two minutes into the second half and led Conwell-Egan past visiting Kennedy-Kenrick, 1-0.

Public. Edison scored twice in the second half and held off visiting Bok, 3-2.

Jose Collazo, Abimael Cruz and Erikson Santiago scored for the Owls while Ed Slueue scored twice for the Wildcats.

Lincoln netminder Ed Tomaszewski turned in a 15-save performance and preserved a 0-0 tie with visiting Bartram in a game between two unbeaten teams.

Catholic Red. Freshman Kevin Lockhart scored the game-winning goal with 20 minutes left in North Catholic's 3-1 win over host Monsignor Bonner.

Suburban One American. Matt Sabin connected for a goal and Plymouth Whitemarsh held off host Norristown, 1-0.

Upper Moreland got goals from Johnathan Baez, Tyler Foerst and Tommy Hayes and edged visiting Upper Dublin, 3-2.

David McEwen notched a hat trick and paced Upper Merion to a 3-0 win over visiting Springfield (Montgomery County). It was the first win of the season for the Vikings.

Pioneer Athletic. Methacton raced to a 3-1 lead in the first half and got past visiting Pottstown, 4-2.

Josh Tagland scored twice for the Warriors.

Bicentennial. Alex Martins brought Lower Moreland back from a 1-0 first-half deficit with a pair of goals and led the Lions to a 2-1 victory over host Phil-Mont Christian.

Nonleague. David Simpson scored the last of his two goals off a flip throw-in by Edward Lauser with 10 minutes left in the game and lifted Ridley past host Academy Park, 4-3.

Lauser, whose throw-ins were between 30 and 40 yards out, assisted on three goals and was credited with an own-goal.

Garrett Hollenbach recorded his seventh straight shutout in goal and Faith Christian eased past host Lehigh Christian, 7-0.

Carley Neal scored with two minutes left to break a tie and give Delco Christian a 3-2 Bicentennial League win at Phil-Mont Christian.

Inter-Ac. Lauren Dimes scored in the first half to give Penn Charter the lead in a 2-0 win at Notre Dame.

Archbishop Ryan got goals from Lauren Smith and Kristine Visco in a 2-1 Catholic League win over visiting St. Hubert.

Suburban One National. Mia Reed's second of two goals with less than three minutes left gave Pennsbury a 3-2 win at Council Rock South.

At Chester Park, Yah Barleh of Academy Park topped Megan Urban of Chichester, 6-3, 6-4, in the final of the Del-Val League Singles Championships. Barleh and Urban had split their earlier two matches.

Central. Alyssa Norton and Erin Reid outlasted Yuei Zhou and Ali Mancuso at fourth doubles, 3-6, 7-6 (7-2), 6-1, to highlight host Radnor's 4-3 rare win over Lower Merion.
