Pa. Boys: La Salle's Mitchell helps nip Malvern

Mitchell scored 11 points in the game, but saved his last three for the final three seconds and handed the Explorers a 44-41 win over the Friars.

With the score tied, Mitchell went in for a layup, was fouled, and converted the three-point play. Troy Hockaday paced La Salle (2-1) with 16 points while Lamon Church scored 14 points for Malvern (5-2).

In other nonleague games:

Shawn Oakman scored 13 points and Penn Wood came from behind to beat host Holy Ghost Prep, 44-42.

David Vining's three pointer with 40 seconds left gave Owen J. Roberts the lead and the Wildcats held on to beat visiting Downingtown East, 59-56. Vining scored 18 points.

Ian Jones hit for 13 points and led Downingtown West past visiting West Chester Rustin, 52-48.

Gratz regained the lead in the final quarter and held off visiting St. Pius X, 64-60. Damion McBride scored 16 points for the Bulldogs.

Tom Sweeney scored 15 points to lead Wissahickon past host Central Bucks East, 57-53.

Mike Pincus poured in 11 points and helped Central Bucks South beat host Father Judge, 47-43.

West Chester Henderson converted four three-pointers in the final quarter and shaded host Oxford, 65-60. Austin Constable scored 24 points for the Warriors.

Anthony Wallace struck for 33 points and led Palumbo past host Lincoln, 83-76.

Charles Cooper was 6 for 6 from the free-throw line in overtime to give Octorara a 56-48 win over visiting Devon Prep. Cooper scored eight points.

Fran Dougherty contributed 22 points, 14 rebounds, and four blocked shots as Archbishop Wood stunned host Roman Catholic, 57-49.

Erikk Wright picked up 26 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead Chester past host Lancaster McCaskey, 77-68.

Anthony Wickerson scored 10 points and sparked Charles Carroll to a 38-29 win over host Douglas.

Cody Nowlin scored 20 of his 23 points in the second half and the Golden Hawks beat host Upper Moreland, 50-41.

A.J. Picard scored 14 of his 16 points in the second half as Souderton tripped visiting Christopher Dock, 51-39.

Public. Donte Goodman converted a toss from the free- throw line late in the game and provided the winning point for Sayre in a 65-64 Public League victory over host Masterman.

Goodman's free throw gave the Panthers a 65-62 lead. He finished with 24 points.

Amir Stringfield scored 24 points to lead Randolph past host High School of the Future, 70-68.

Devon Finney scored 17 points and Kyle Richardson converted a three-point-play in overtime to give Kensington a 52-50 win over visiting Roxborough.

Alan Dempster struck for 17 points and helped Philadelphia Academy Charter beat visiting Esperanza, 46-43.

Glen Mills Tipoff Tournament. The host Battling Bulls got 17 points from Kyrell Taylor and downed Lamberton, 74-31, in a semifinal game.

In the other semifinal, Devonte Newbill scored 18 points for Strawberry Mansion in a 63-37 win over Central.

Central. Kevin Chevalier dropped in 20 points and sparked Springfield (Delaware County) to a 74-70 win over visiting Harriton.

Pioneer Athletic. Steve Procario hit for five three pointers and scored 19 points as Spring-Ford held off host Methacton, 66-62.

Ryan Davis collected 20 points and boosted Perkiomen Valley past host Boyertown, 48-40.

Friends Schools. Joey Gripper and Jabril Trawick each scored 18 points as Abington Friends came from behind to beat visiting Academy of the New Church, 60-49.

Wrestling

Josh Henry earned a pin in 1 minute, 13 seconds at 215 pounds and helped Westtown beat host Sanford (Del.), 66-16, in a nonleague match.
