Haddon Twp. names a baseball coach

Doug Richardson, the junior varsity baseball coach for the previous five seasons at Haddon Township, has been named the Hawks' varsity coach.

Doug Richardson, the junior varsity baseball coach for the previous five seasons at Haddon Township, has been named the Hawks' varsity coach.

Richardson replaced Dave Dale, who resigned last month because he wanted to see his son, Jeremy, a junior at Kingsway, play high school baseball.

A 1996 graduate of Haddon Township, Richardson was a starter at first base as a senior. He also played first base on the Hawks' 1995 Colonial Conference title team.

"It is very exciting," Richardson said. "Dave was such a great coach, but it opened a door for me to further my coaching career at the school I graduated."

Haddon Township finished the season 24-5 and won the South Jersey Group 2 title and the Colonial Conference Patriot Division championship. The Hawks also advanced to the championship in the 16-team Joe Hartmann Diamond Classic, falling to Cherokee, The Inquirer's eventual No. 1 team, in the final.
