Pa. Boys: Goodman, Sayre top Esperanza

Donte Goodman kept dialing long distance, answering Sayre's hopes for a victory in a Public League basketball game yesterday. Goodman drained a 35-foot jumper at the buzzer to force overtime and added a pair of three-pointers in the extra session to give the Panthers a 61-56 win over host Esperanza.

Goodman's shot at the end of regulation tied the game, 48-48. His treys in overtime helped him finish with 22 points, and Darian Hamlin chipped in with 10 of his 16 points in overtime.

In other league games:

Rysheed Jordan canned a pair of free throws with three seconds left to give Vaux a 60-58 win over host Prep Charter. He scored 12 points.

Kamel Austin went in for a layup with 4.9 seconds remaining to hand Central a 53-51 victory over visiting Germantown. Austin scored 11 points and teammate Bradon Smith chipped in with 15 points for the Lancers.

Mike Wilson scored eight of his 17 points down the stretch and led Martin Luther King past host Overbrook, 51-49.

Harris Griffin converted a pair of baskets in the final minute and scored 14 points as Elverson beat host Douglas, 44-42, for its first-ever Public League win.

University City converted 31 of 46 free throws overall and 10 of 19 in the final quarter to hold off host Southern, 73-70. Michael Clemmons scored 22 points for the Jaguars.

Kervyn Haynes 17 of his 23 points in the second half including a 9-point effort in the final quarter to lift Swenson past visiting Roxborough, 67-63.

Lincoln got 25 points from Rickey Savage and beat visiting Northeast, 74-66.

Rasheed Calhoun picked up 16 points to lead Palumbo past visiting High School of the future, 72-59.

Central. Daron Harris chipped in with 18 points to lead Upper Darby past visiting Conestoga, 55-54.

Dave Arkus converted a layup with four seconds left to give Garnet Valley a 44-41 win over visiting Haverford High. Arkus scored seven points and Joe DiCarlo added 16 points for the Jaguars.

Rodney Duncan and Andrew Radomicki combined to go 9 for 12 from the free throw line down the stretch and led Penncrest to a 46-41 win over visiting Springfield (Delaware County).

Duncan scored 15 points, and Radomicki added nine points for the Lions.

A four-point-play by Mike Robbins in the final three minutes broke a 31-31 tie and propelled Lower Merion past host Ridley, 41-35. Robbins scored 5 points.

Suburban One National. Eddie Valentine collected 15 points for Truman in a 55-50 win over visiting Council Rock North.

Jesse Krasna dropped in 17 points and Pennsbury converted 13 of 16 free throws in the final quarter en route to a 57-48 win over visiting Bensalem.

Suburban One Continental. Dalton Nice scored the 1,000th point of his career and boosted Quakertown past visiting Central Bucks East, 62-43.

Nice, who scored 22 points, reached the milestone after converting a three-point-play.

Nick Joerger hit a pair of free throws to force overtime, and Justin Policare nailed a pair of free throws in overtime to secure Central Bucks South's 68-63 win over host Pennridge. Joerger scored 24 points for the Titans.

Ches-Mont. Dan Shackleton hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to force overtime, and Great Valley took advantage by going 7 for 9 from the free throw line in the extra period to beat host Unionville, 56-51. Shackleton scored 10 points, while Michael Douglas added 22 points for the Patriots.

Pioneer Athletic. Nick Coburn scored 14 points for Spring-Ford in a 40-34 victory over visiting Perkiomen Valley.

Bicentennial. Abraham Sheriss converted a three-pointer from the top of the key at the buzzer in overtime to lift Morrisville past visiting Jenkintown, 40-37. He scored 10 points for the Bulldogs.

Tom Parisse picked up 10 of his 16 points in the third quarter as Lower Moreland upended visiting Christopher Dock, 49-45.

New Hope-Solebury got 18 points from Tom Fiala and got past visiting MaST Charter, 58-53.

John Johnson struck for 22 points to boost Girard College past visiting Delco Christian, 64-56.

Mike Byrne struck for 17 points to lead Holy Ghost Prep past host Devon Prep, 61-52.

Nonleague. Lamon Church contributed 18 points to boost Malvern Prep to a 46-37 win over host Methacton.

City of Palms Tournament. Will Brown scored 18 points, but Penn Wood fell to Westchester, 64-62, in Fort Myers, Fla.

Iolani Classic. Tony Chennault dropped in 29 points and led Neumann-Goretti to a 72-65 win over Montrose Christian (Md.), in a semifinal late Monday night.
