Aiken, PW best ANC on final day of Nelson Classic

Plymouth Whitemarsh recorded its second double-digit win of this year's Nelson Classic yesterday, dropping Academy of the New Church, 57-46, before a capacity crowd of 1,300 fans at Gwynedd Mercy College's Griffin Center.

The 30-team boys' basketball showcase concluded yesterday with six games played at two locations - three at Gwynedd Mercy and three at North Catholic.

The Colonials rode 6-foot-10 senior center C.J. Aiken (21 points) and pushed the pace when he sat in the second half due to foul trouble.

"What we tried to do when C.J. came out was just go faster, and it worked for enough time," Colonials coach Jim Donofrio said.

"What we do well is we keep attacking."

Sophomore forward Savon Lloyd-Goodman led Academy of the New Church with 20 points.

In other action at Gwynedd Mercy, Atlantic City came back to beat Lower Merion in overtime, 57-54, while Neumann-Goretti defeated Conwell Egan, 82-63.

At North Catholic, Robeson (N.Y.) beat Olney, 73-71; Bishop Laughlin (N.Y.) roughed up Camden, 88-53; and North Catholic topped Susquehanna, 73-60.

Atlantic City 57 Lower Merion 54 - Vikings senior guard Nate Brown (11 points) converted an acrobatic three-point play with 7.5 seconds remaining in overtime to shock the Aces, who led by 30-15 at halftime.

Senior forward Muji McBride led Atlantic City with 16 points. Junior guard Matt McKenna (14 points) led the way for Lower Merion.

Neumann-Goretti 82, Conwell-Egan 63 - Senior center Daniel Stewart scored 23 points, and junior guard Lamin Fulton added 19 as the Saints defeated the Eagles despite 18 points from senior forward Mike Payne.

Robeson (N.Y.) 73, Olney 71 - Robeson guard Darrel Lucky (24 points) hit a runner with five seconds left to beat the Trojans of the Public League. Ray Jaggon (28 points) and Jabreil McLeod (22) led Olney.

Bishop Loughlin (N.Y.) 88, Camden 53 - The Lions' Javon Pinkston (21 points) led 13 scorers past Vincent Walls (24 points) and the Panthers.

North Catholic 73, Susquehanna Township 60 - North Catholic was led by Jameel Mack with 24 points, Mike Terry with 18 points and eight rebounds, and Woody Redding, who handed out nine assists.
