Haddonfield track star Colin Baker has decided to attend the University of Pennsylvania and run for the Quakers.

Baker is a two-time Group 2 state champion in the outdoor 1,600 meters. He ran a personal best of 4 minutes, 9.30 seconds in the 1,600 meters at last June's Meet of Champions.

Baker also was a standout member of the Bulldogs' cross-country team, which won four Group 2 state titles during his career.

"It was a combination of things," Baker said. "Academically, it's a great school, and I want to pursue a field in medicine down the road. It's close to home and I'm really comfortable with the guys on the team and the coaches."

Penn assistant coach Eric Bonnette is a Haddonfield graduate.

Baker said he made official visits to Duke, North Carolina, Harvard, and Georgetown. He made an unofficial visit to Columbia, which was his second choice.

"It just feels like the right decision," Baker said.
