Pa. Girls: Strong pitching lifts Owls in softball

The rest of this spring and the next four could be promising for the Agnes Irwin softball team if Friday's 11-3 Inter-Ac League win at Penn Charter was any indication.

Katie Wenger, only an eighth grader, pitched a complete game and struck out 10.

Katie McCollum provided the hitting support for the Owls (3-0) with a 3 for 5 day.

Lauren Berry pitched a two-hitter for host Episcopal Academy in its 5-0 win over Baldwin.

Public. Yasmaris Clemente went 4 for 4, drove in eight runs, and hit for the cycle in Frankford's 18-7 win at Washington.

Freshman shortstop Gia Carangi went 3 for 3 with three RBIs and three runs scored for host GAMP in its 15-4 win over Communications Tech.

Masterman got a two-hitter from pitcher Emily Ashbridge in its 11-1 win over visiting Saul.

Paige Lang pitched a three-inning no-hitter and Franklin Towne Charter pounded out 20 hits in an 18-0 win at Bok.

Suburban One American. Maddie Denneny allowed just one hit and Upper Moreland took advantage of a three-run inning to win, 3-0, at Upper Dublin. The Golden Bears beat Kristin Ganderton, even though the Cardinals' hurler gave up no earned runs.

Suburban One Continental. Second baseman Alyssa Campbell's diving stop of a hard ground ball by Sarah Derstine up the middle saved North Penn's 3-2 win at rival Souderton. Olivia Shoemaker's triple drove in two runs and Shoemaker was stranded on third base as as a result of the diving stop and pinpoint throw that nailed Derstine on a close play at first to end the game. Kellianna Bradstreet pitched all seven innings, scattering seven hits, striking out four and walking one, for the Maidens.

Ches-Mont. Casey Herring pitched a three-hitter and struck out 12 for host Downingtown West in a 6-0 win over West Chester Henderson.

Colleen Beckman allowed five hits and went the seven-inning distance for host Unionville in its 3-1 win over Octorara.

Pioneer Conference. Kristin Robinson pitched a four-hitter and struck out six as Spring-Ford earned a 2-1 win at Methacton.

Cheyanne Dawson and Courtney Solt each had two hits for Boyertown in its 6-2 win over visiting Pottstown.

Jess White pitched a complete game and went 3 for 4 as Perkiomen Valley earned a 7-5 win at St. Pius X.

Friends Schools. Host Shipley needed to rally for two runs in the bottom of the seventh to beat Abington Friends, 4-3. Kat Repetto's single plated the tying run and Sara Touey scored the winning run on a error.

Molly Tow had three of Germantown Friends' 10 hits in a 12-2 win at Academy of the New Church.

Nonleague. Taylor Bobek allowed only one earned run over seven innings to pitch Central Bucks West to a 3-1 win at Council Rock South.

Becca Dahle had four goals and four assists for Friends' Central in its 14-5 nonleague win at Sacred Heart.

Inter-Ac. Blaine Steinberg scored four goals to power host Penn Charter past Agnes Irwin, 14-8.

Maggie Corcoran had six goals on six shots as Notre Dame won at Springside, 24-9.

Catholic Academies. Bonnie McShane's eight goals powered Merion Mercy to a 21-1 win over visiting Gwynedd-Mercy.

Franklin Towne Charter goalie Amanda Johnson registered her fourth-straight shutout in a 4-0 nonleague win at Calvary Christian.
