Koch wins Inter-Ac golf crown

The Inter-Ac League performed a test run of Aronimink Golf Club for the PGA yesterday, and Malvern Prep's Tucker Koch found the course ready for the professionals.

Koch fired a 68 to take the league individual title, 2 strokes ahead of Scott Jaster of Haverford School.

Koch, a senior, finished second last season.

The PGA will play the AT&T Championship at Aronimink in July.

Tennis

Gabe Steerman and James Ayer defended their District 12 Class AAA doubles title and will return to the state Class AAA tournament next week.

Steerman and Ayer downed Harry Bonet and Rich Danze of La Salle, 6-0, 6-2, to win the title and earn a match in the state tournament against the District 7 runner-up.

Baseball

O'Shane Black ripped a two-run single up the middle with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning and handed Germantown an 8-7 win over visiting Fels in a Public League Class AAAA play-in playoff game.

In Class AA quarterfinal playoff games:

Javier Sanchez delivered a two-run, two-out single in the bottom of the sixth inning to give Swenson a 4-3 win over visiting Mariana Bracetti.

Prep Charter got a single and a double from winning pitcher Michael Borelli and beat visiting Randolph, 11-1.

Jorge Martinez held Ben Franklin to one hit over four innings, and Harry Beam stroked a single, a double and a triple with five RBIs as Philadelphia Academy Charter dropped the Electrons, 16-1.

In regular-season action:

Jordie Ortiz tossed a five-inning no-hitter and led Boys' Latin past host Lamberton, 11-0. Ortiz struck out 13 and walked three.

Brandon Gonzalez picked up a pair of singles and scored twice for Frankford in a 4-2 win over visiting GAMP.

Brothers Nate and Nelson Coronado collected three hits each and sparked Northeast to a 9-6 win over visiting Edison.

Catholic Red. Matt Ruggieri went 3 for 3 with a pair of doubles and knocked in three runs as Monsignor Bonner tripped host Roman Catholic, 11-10, to win its first outright division title since 1998.

Kurt Sowa smashed a bases-loaded two-run single in the top of the seventh inning and gave Father Judge a 9-7 win over host La Salle.

Ray Toto ripped a two-run double in the seventh inning and boosted St. Joseph's Prep to a 5-2 win over host Cardinal O'Hara.

Catholic Blue. Kyle McCrossen drove in the tying runs with a single and scored the winning run on a wild pitch with two outs and an 0-2 count, giving Archbishop Wood a 9-8 victory over visiting Neumann-Goretti.

Central. Mike Koerick smacked three singles and drove in a run to give Radnor a 6-5 win over host Marple Newtown. The Tigers have lost two of their last three games after winning their first 15 games.

Joe DeCarlo knocked in the winning run with a solo homer in the fourth inning and boosted Garnet Valley to a 2-0 win over visiting Springfield (Delaware County).

Andrew Guy's two-run double with two outs in the fifth inning gave Conestoga a 4-1 win over visiting Penncrest.

Suburban One National. Sam Sparhawk went from reliever to starter and lifted Abington to a 7-4 win over visiting Bensalem. Sparhawk gave up five hits and one earned run before he left in the fifth inning.

Suburban One Continental. Bryce Mengle got the win as North Penn beat visiting Pennridge, 4-1, to pull into a first-place tie with the Rams.

Suburban One American. Bobby Slagle crushed a two-run homer in the top of the seventh inning and lifted Plymouth Whitemarsh to a 6-4 win over host Springfield (Montgomery County).

Robert Mansell cracked a two-run, two-out triple in the bottom of the sixth inning to lead Cheltenham to a 13-11 win over visiting Norristown.

Ray Gambone went 3 for 4 and knocked in a pair of runs as Upper Merion downed host Upper Dublin, 6-4.

Ches-Mont. Jarad Carney belted a solo homer in the sixth inning and added a single, two RBIs and two runs scored as Sun Valley downed host West Chester Rustin, 7-5.

Bicentennial. Kevin Hull accounted for two singles and drove in a run to lead Jenkintown to a 7-5 win over host Calvary Christian.

Nick Mascioli struck out nine and helped himself with a two-run homer as Delco Christian topped visiting Lower Moreland, 5-2.

Tri-County. Josh Ackerman hit a two-run single with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning and Dan Elkin scored on an error to give Barrack Hebrew an 8-7 win over visiting West-Mont Christian in a semifinal playoff game.

In the other semifinal, Juanky Sierra hit a double and drove in two runs as Perkiomen School beat visiting Phelps, 7-1.

Lacrosse

Tori Gordon notched a hat trick and led Washington past visiting Audenried, 11-2, in a Public League game.
