Pa. Boys: FTC, Esperanza win Public League baseball crowns

It was championship day for Public League baseball Monday.

In the Class AAA title game, Ryan Kubacki limited Philadelphia Electrical to one single and boosted Franklin Towne Charter to a 4-1 win.

Kubacki struck out seven and walked two in a complete-game effort while Kevin Racek and Tim Hart combined for three RBIs.

In the Class AA championship game, Esperanza got 10 strikeouts from Carlos Gil and beat visiting Swenson, 7-3.

Luis Santos led the Scorpions' offense with three singles and two RBIs, while Felix Torraca and Franklin Mejia each added a pair of hits. Esperanza won the title last year.

District 1 Class AAAA. Pinch-runner Nick Fazio scored his most important run of the season and gave South No. 6 seed Methacton an 8-7 first-round win over visiting South No. 11 seed West Chester East.

Fazio scored on a sacrifice fly by Andrew Carr.

Zach Filippi ripped a two-run, two-out single up the middle to tie the game, and Brian Beyer singled home Ryan Hires with the winning run to give North No. 6 seed Truman a 4-3 win over visiting South No. 12 seed Upper Darby.

Slater McCue struck out 12 and Brian Cizek drove in a pair of runs to lead South No. 8 seed Conesoga past visiting North No. 9 seed Upper Dublin, 4-2.

Jake Poeske smashed a three-run homer in the fifth inning and finished with four runs batted in as visiting North No. 10 seed Central Bucks West got past South No. 7 seed Interboro, 12-3.

North No. 8 seed Central Bucks South picked up just two hits, but beat visiting South No. 9 seed Spring-Ford, 1-0. Dan Wasson struck out 11 and got the win on the mound.

District 1 Class AAA. Chris Kirsch held visiting No. 7 seed Sun Valley to five hits and struck out 12 to lead No. 2 seed Marple Newtown to a 5-1 first-round victory.

Brian Bosco improved his record to 8-1 and James DeVita blasted a three-run homer over the left-field fence as No. 3 seed Strath Haven beat visiting No. 6 seed Upper Merion, 9-3.

Dave McInerney and Tim Santry hit back-to-back home runs in the fourth inning to hand No. 4 seed Upper Moreland a 2-0 win over visiting No. 5 seed Phoenixville.

Greg Olenski belted a two-run homer in the fourth inning to give No. 1 seed Holy Ghost Prep the lead for good in a 7-5 win over visiting No. 8 seed Upper Perkiomen.

District 1 Class A. Jeremy Soto earned the win and Hermes Paes hit a triple to lead visiting No. 5 seed Church Farm past No. 4 seed Delco Christian, 9-6.

Eric Wade hit a two-run single in the sixth inning and finished with four RBIs as No. 2 seed Bristol beat visiting No. 7 seed Calvary Christian, 10-5.

Catholic. Kevin Conroy singled down the third-base line with one out and the bases loaded to drive in Jim Delaney and handed Father Judge a 5-4 win over visiting St. Joseph's Prep in the 11th inning.

Conroy pitched the final four innings in relief and earned the win.

C.J. Burns kept Cardinal O'Hara under wraps and led La Salle past the visiting Lions, 8-0, in a first-round playoff game.

Burns went the distance, gave up four hits, struck out eight and walked none.

Winning pitcher Seamus Finnegan hit two singles, a double, and drove in a run as Archbishop Carroll beat host Lansdale Catholic, 6-0. Finnegan pitched a four-hitter.

Pa. Independent Schools. Carl Von Kiel tossed a five-inning no-hitter to lead West-Mont Christian past visiting Solebury School, 10-0, in a tournament play-in game.

George School and Friends' Central earned two wins each to highlight the Friends Schools League individual championships at Westtown.

Jason Sisti won at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 7-6 (7-4), and Devon Pinkus won at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-0, for the Cougars.

The Phoenix got a win at second singles from Declan Hahn, 6-3, 6-0, and a win at No. 1 doubles from Wes Kaminsky and Ilan Dreyfus, 7-5, 6-1.
