Hays leads Pitman to win

Dan Hays secured a three-set win at second singles, helping Pitman defeat Pennsville, 3-2, in the NJSIAA South Jersey Group 1 boys' tennis championship on Tuesday at Gateway.

Hays edged Bryan Bodine, 6-3, 1-6, 6-1, and the Panthers (19-2) also got wins from Eric Todd at third singles, and Jon Sjolander and Torey Langlois at first doubles.

South Jersey Group 2. Ty Simcox and Luke Grabiak outlasted Middle Township's Andrew Sellers and Anthony DiCicco, 6-1, 1-6, 6-0, at first doubles, highlighting Haddonfield's 4-1 title win at Millville.

The Bulldogs (28-4) also got singles wins from Brian Oatway and Matt Godlewski.

South Jersey Group 3. By sweeping the doubles matches, Moorestown captured another sectional title, edging Ocean City, 3-2, in the final at Vineland.

Matt Holzinger and Mike Schwartz won at first doubles, Colin Groundwater and Justin Wisniewski cruised at second doubles, and the Quakers added Michael Bass' 6-0, 6-0 shutout at third singles.

South Jersey Non-Public A. Chaz Berenato prevailed at first singles, but it was the only match St. Augustine (19-3) won in a 4-1 championship loss to Christian Brothers (18-3) at Southern Regional.

South Jersey Non-Public B. Moorestown Friends (14-5) successfully defended its title by edging Sacred Heart (12-7), 3-2, at Atkinson Park in Sewell. Luke Timber and Jake Brown provided a key point with a 6-2, 6-2 triumph at second doubles.
