Jonathan Taylor has been named the boys' basketball coach at Pennsauken after a successful season as the girls' coach at Camden.

A 2000 Pennsauken graduate, Taylor replaced Cetshwayo Byrd, who wasn't rehired, according to athletic director Billy Wright.

In his only season at Camden, Taylor guided the Panthers to a 20-7 record. They advanced to the semifinals of the South Jersey Group 2 tournament before losing to eventual champion Haddonfield, 50-42.

"This is a great opportunity for me to come home," Taylor said.

Before taking over at Camden, he coached AAU girls' basketball for three seasons. Taylor expressed gratitude toward Camden athletic director Al Dyer, who gave him his first high school head coaching job.

"Camden treated me well, and Mr. Dyer was an excellent boss who taught me a lot," Taylor said.

He will inherit a veteran Pennsauken team that should be considered a preseason top-10 South Jersey team.

"We have a lot of talent coming back," Taylor said. "I want to get them to be disciplined, to work hard, and play under control. I'm looking forward to getting started."
