GAMP falls in PIAA playoffs

Girard Academic Music Program built leads of 1-0 and 3-2, but the end result wasn't too pretty yesterday in a PIAA Class A first-round playoff at Montgomery County Community College.

The Pioneers wound up falling to Christopher Dock, 15-5, in six innings.

Anthony DiVincenzo, who took the loss but also homered, and Dom Raia pitched three innings apiece for GAMP. Sal Giafaglione, Joe Coppola, Tyler Criniti and Jimmy Coin all doubled, while the first two managed two hits apiece.

In other first-round playoffs:

-- Great Valley 4, Bonner 1: In AAAA, at Richie Ashburn Field in South Philly, Matt Ruggieri's RBI single gave Bonner a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Josh VanHorn and Steve Markus had the Friars' only other hits. Anthony DiGalbo took the loss.

-- West Chester Henderson 11, Central 1: Also in AAAA, at Glen Mills, the Lancers were limited to five hits, with two going to Dan Quinn. Gabe Buchanan launched a sacrifice fly to score Mike Cavallaro. Pete Rowe took the loss. West Chester Henderson scored six in the home fifth to end it.

-- Bermudian Springs 11, Esperanza 0: In AA, at Northern York, Frank Mejia collected two of Esperanza's five hits in the five-inning game. Carlos Gil was the losing pitcher.

-- Twin Valley 1, Strath Haven 0: Strath Haven's season ends with a 15-7 record despite a solid pitching performance from Jake Enterine (nine strikeouts) and a double from James DeVita. Twin Valley's Jesse May belted the decisive RBI single in the fifth.
