Austin Bury, a member of this past season's highly successful Malvern Prep crew team, helped the United States win a gold medal for quads Monday in the annual CanAmMex, a developmental regatta in Pittsburgh.
Bury, who will be a senior at Malvern this fall, was in the third seat as the U.S. team nipped Mexico by 1.9 seconds over the 2,000 meter course.
"It was a great race," said Bury, who was joined by Jim Stofford of Cincinatti, Hunter Leman of Connecticut and Jonathon Rosow of Florida. "It was closer than we thought after we heard the times."
Bury's Friar teammate, Pat Donahue, was also selected to a national team. A senior-to-be, he will be racing in the quad event at the Junior World Championships Aug. 4-7 in Racice, Czech Republic. He is training with the team in Miami.
Donahue's older brother Mike, a 2009 graduate of the Prep, has been named to the U.S. under-23 team, which is training for competition in Belarus in August.
