W. Catholic star wins Leonard Weaver/Daily News tickets

West Catholic High two-way standout Jim Lynch has been selected the winner of this week's Leonard Weaver/Daily News award.

West Catholic High two-way standout Jim Lynch has been selected the winner of this week's Leonard Weaver/Daily News award.

Weaver selected the senior tight end/defensive end to receive his two game tickets to tonight's preseason finale against the New York Jets. The Eagles fullback will give his two game tickets for each Eagles home game this season to local high school football players who excel on and off the field.

"Jim has a 3.14 GPA," West Catholic coach Brian Fluck said. "Jim is a hard-working kid who everyone likes. Jim has several Division I scholarship offers that he is considering. He makes everyone at West Catholic proud."

Lynch, a 6-5, 230-pounder, has been a 3-year starter on offense and a 2-year starter on defense. He had 18 catches for 348 yards and three touchdowns last season. On defense, he had 68 tackles, 34 for a loss, 13 1/2 sacks, three fumble recoveries (one for a touchdown) four passes defended and one blocked field-goal attempt.

Lynch was named first-team All-Catholic League on defense and he was a second-team All-City performer on defense.

Winners will attend the game with an adult chaperone (it must be a parent, guardian or coach). Lynch will meet Weaver after the game and will receive two pregame sideline passes, courtesy of the Eagles.

The winners are chosen for exhibiting great effort on the field and in the classroom, as well as showing great character off the field. Nominees are submitted to the Daily News and the final selection is made by Weaver.

The third-year program was the brainchild of former Eagles safety Brian Dawkins, and was taken over last year by quarterback Donovan McNabb.
