Sat. Pa. boys’ and girls’ roundup: Springfield’s Kaiser advances

Kaiser, the top seed from Springfield (Montgomery County), beat Arianne Polatnick of Lower Moreland, 6-0, 7-5, to win the tournament.

In the third-place match, Liz Turner of Delco Christian beat Rebecca Sherwood of Springfield (Montgomery County) by defeault. All four semifinalists qualified for the district tournament beginning Oct. 8.

Cross-Country

Meghan McGovern of North Penn turned in a course-record time of 18 minutes, 11 seconds and the Maidens took the top three places to win the Souderton Ivitational with 30 points.

Courtney Kern was second in 19:35, Rachel Brown was third in 20:05 and Lynne Deckel was fifth in 20:36.

On the boys' side, Kevin Dastalfo of Downingtown East turned in a winning time of 16:47 and led his team to the team title with 29 points. East placed five runners in the top 10 including Ryan White (4th, 17:13), Zach Nevner (5th, 17:14), Chris Quigley (9th, 17:53) and Ben Rowles (10th, 18:13).

PIAA Foundation Invitational. Pennsbury's Sara Sargent crossed the finish line in a winning time of 18:51 and led the Falcons to the team title with 78 points in Hershey.

George School Invitational. Catie Skinner covered the 3.1-mile course in Newtown with a winning time of 19:52 and led Penn Charter to the team title with 40 points.

For the boys, Sami Aziz of Abington Friends won in 17:02 and Lower Moreland took the team title with 46 points.

Carlisle Invitational. Tom Trainer of La Salle was clocked in 15:46.10 and placed third in the Varsity Boys Reebok Challenge race. The Explorers were fourth with 237 points.

In the Varsity Girls Champions race, Sarah Holl of Upper Dublin was second in 19:46.77 and Radnor finished third with 230 points.

Boys' Soccer

Geoff Stewart provided the only goal Shipley would need in a 1-0 nonleague victory over visiting Radnor.

Stewart scored 17 minutes into the second half off an assist from Kevin Staples. Freshman Pablo Sisniega stopped 12 shots to earn his fifth shutout of the season for the Gators.

Mike Gonzalez scored with seven minutes left in the first half and Conestoga held on to beat visiting Great Valley, 1-0.

Brett Campbell scored in the 32d minute for Haverford School, but visiting Gilman tied the game in the 61st minute and forced a 1-1 tie.

Josh Holin, Kenny Johnson and Niko Regalbuto provided goals and gave Abington Friends a 3-1 win over visiting Franklin Towne Charter.

Alex Evans and Jamie Forest collected goals for Hill School in a 2-0 win over visiting Episcopal Academy.

Matt Ahlberg scored a goal in the first five minutes of each half and handed Methacton a 2-0 win over host Lansdale Catholic.

Matias Fernandez-Duque and Ben Hriscu provided goals for Lower Merion in a 2-0 win over visiting Unionville.

Father Judge got goals from Justin Hiltwine, Andrew Kelly and Jamie Mangini and beat visiting Central, 3-1.

Carlos Barriga scored the first goal of the game and added an assist to lead Upper Darby past visiting Phoenixville, 3-0.

Girls' Soccer

Caitlin Kerkering scored the lone goal of the game with five seconds left in overtime and lifted Methacton to a 1-0 win over visiting Strath Haven in a nonleague game.

Julie Stipa scored with five minutes left in the game and pulled Archbishop Carroll into a 1-1 tie with visiting Merion Mercy.

Nicole Natale scored in the first half for the Golden Bears.

Jenna Morris stopped 15 shots for visiting Great Valley and Stacey Porter turned aside 12 shots for Springfield (Delaware County) in a 0-0 double-overtime tie.

Sabrina Gabaso scored with 15 minutes left in the first half and Harriton held on to tie visiting Chichester in double-overtime, 1-1.

Jenna Petrino scored midway through the second half and allowed Conwell-Egan to tie visiting Notre Dame (N.J.), 1-1, in double overtime.

Alaina Bradley and Emily Wenger each scored in the first half to boost Garnet Valley to a 2-0 win over visiting Sun Valley.

Holly Garber accounted for a goal and an assist as Boyertown handled host Lower Merion, 3-1.

Taylor Caparo scored a goal and assisted on another as Gwynedd-Mercy got past visiting Marple Newtown, 3-0.

Friends Schools. Christina Furlong stopped five shots for Abington Friends in a 0-0 double-overtime tie with host Moorestown Friends.

Field Hockey

Laura Pacheco found the back of the cage with 3 minutes, 25 seconds left in overtime and handed Mount St. Joseph a 2-1 nonleague win over visiting Pennsbury.

Girls High parlayed a pair of goals from Allison Shuster into a 2-0 win over Bishop McDevitt at Benjamin L. Johnston Memorial Stadium.

In the championship game, the Warriors fell to the host Spartans, 1-0.
