Tues. Pa. boys’ roundup: La Salle extends unbeaten soccer mark

Darius Madison found the range with seven minutes left in a second overtime period to give La Salle a 1-0 win over the visiting Hawks.

Jack Dusing assisted on the goal and Leonardo Romero earned his seventh shutout for the Explorers (9-0-1 overall, 7-0 league).

La Salle is the top-ranked team in The Inquirer's top 10 and the Southeastern Pennsylvania Soccer Coaches polls. The Prep (7-2-2, 5-1-1) is ranked ninth in the coaches poll.

Tim Coady struck for a pair of goals and led Monsignor Bonner past visiting Archbishop Carroll, 3-0.

Ryan Wellman scored on a penalty kick and goalie Nick Previti stopped a penalty shot for the Friars.

Tom Baker scored twice and sparked Archbishop Wood to a 4-0 win over visiting Lansdale Catholic.

Tim Stipa scored the first two goals of his career as Cardinal O'Hara tripped visiting Neumann-Goretti, 10-2.

Stipa, a defender, was joined by Mike Sherwood who scored the first two goals of his career.

Chris Gatton and Carl Szylejko each scored twice as Archbishop Ryan routed host West Catholic, 9-0.

Public. Paqsor Vruhaj notched the game-winning goal with six minutes left in a second overtime period and handed Swenson a 5-4 win over host Martin Luther King.

Mustafa Al Ghazzwi and Eric Salguero each scored twice to lift Frankford past visiting Engineering & Science, 5-3.

Nabieu Sesay exploded for four goals and sparked Boys' Latin to a 6-3 win over visiting Franklin Learning Center.

Brian Parker picked up two goals and an assist and Justin Phann added two goals to give Mastbaum its first win of the season with a 7-1 decision over host Roxborough.

Central. Ben Davis chipped in with two goals and led Penncrest to a 3-1 win over visiting Springfield (Delaware County).

Radnor used goals by Jake Camp, Carlos Ferj-Viveros, Carter Furtaw and Michael Superdock to beat visiting Ridley, 4-1.

Suburban One National. Ian McMillan scored the game-winning goal 11 minutes into the first half and Abington held on to beat host William Tennent, 2-1.

Nick Hartwell, Nate Margolis and Alec Neumann scored goals to give council Rock North a 3-1 win over visiting Bensalem.

Suburban One Continental. Shane Donovan posted his second shutout in three games since returning from a fractured hip and Central Bucks East shut out host Quakertown, 5-0.

Suburban One American. Menvekeh Daremay scored the lone goal of the game in the first half and gave Upper Moreland a 1-0 win over visiting Cheltenham.

Clayton Harris and Brandon Johnson accounted for goals and led Plymouth Whitemarsh to a 2-0 win over visiting Upper Merion.

Joe Farrell struck for a pair of goals and helped Wissahickon beat visiting Upper Dublin, 5-1.

Ches-Mont. Ben Frymier scored the last of his two goals eight minutes into overtime and gave Downingtown East a 2-1 win over host Bishop Shanahan.

Nick Rohleder's goal with 3 minutes, 5 seconds left in the game pulled West Chester Rustin into a 1-1 tie with visiting Octorara. Nate Aquadro scored for the Braves.

Pioneer Athletic. Derek Sein-Lwin took Pope John Paul II's only shot with 12 minutes left in the game and sent it into the net to give the Golden Panthers a 1-0 win over host Methacton.

Bicentennial. Colin O'Neill, Kyle Klein and Tim Lazorko each contributed a goal and an assist as Holy Ghost Prep beat host Springfield (Montgomery County), 5-1.

Evan Steiger scored twice and Aiah Mbriwa added a goal and three assists to lead Phil-Mont Christian to a 6-1 win over visiting Girard College.

Friends Schools. Julius Mouser earned his first varsity goal and helped Shipley beat visiting Friends' Central, 2-0.

Geoff Stewart also scored for the Gators.

Christian Cepeda and Niko Regalbuto scored in the first half and propelled Abington Friends to a 4-1 win over visiting Academy of the New Church.

Tri-County. Yazan Muasher posted a pair of goals and boosted Del-Val Friends to a 4-0 win over visiting Kimberton Waldorf.

Nonleague. Elvis Kannah scored off an assist from Zuu Yealesea with 15 minutes left in the game and handed Academy Park a 1-0 win over visiting Norristown.

Dutch Buckley, Steven Fesere, Josh Wilson and Zack Wolfe picked up goals for Episcopal Academy in a 4-1 victory over visiting Delco Christian.

Football

Northeast High end Deion Barnes, and Pottsgrove backs Terrell Chestnut and Maika Polamalu have been selected for USA Football's Under-19 National Team "watch list."

The 45-player national team will be composed of players from the 241-player watch list, and will compete against an international team in Austin, Texas on Feb. 2, 2011.
