Tim McDonald, boys' basketball coach the past two years at Gateway, has resigned after accepting an assistant coaching job at Cabrini College.

McDonald, a 1999 graduate of Haddon Heights, spent five seasons coaching at Gateway, the first three as the JV coach.

"I really enjoyed it at Gateway and we thought we were turning the program around, but this is a great opportunity," McDonald said.

Gateway went 13-14 last season after going 5-21 during McDonald's first year.

McDonald worked a summer camp at Villanova with Cabrini coach Marcus Kahn and also got to know him through the recruitment of Jon Miller. A 2010 Gateway graduate, the 6-foot-5 Miller is a Cabrini freshman.

Gateway athletic director Lou Raba says he is accepting applications for the head-coaching job.
