Mount's golfers capture league crown

A little rain did not stop Mount St. Joseph's golfers from dominating the Athletic Association of Catholic Academies championship on Monday.

The Magic had the top three overall finishers in the league's championship match at Honeybrook Golf Club, led by Alise McNutt's 3-over-par 40. Teammates Samantha Arena and Nicole Mischler were just 1 stoke behind McNutt.

All three and seven others qualified for the District 1 championships on Oct. 12 at the Gilbertsville Country Club.

As a team, Mount St. Joseph finished with 216 strokes, well ahead of second-place Villa Joseph Marie (249).

Suburban One League. Brandon Dalinka of Council Rock North fired a 72 and won the league title at Indian Valley Country Club.

Dalinka shot a 36 on each half and beat teammate Zach Herr by 2 strokes.

Boys' Soccer

Nick DiGregorio picked a good time to score his first goal of the season.

DiGregorio found the range in the second half and lifted Holy Ghost Prep past host Father Judge, 1-0, in a nonleague game between two area heavyweights.

Kyle Klein assisted on the goal, which came from inside the box 10 yards out. Dan Burke earned the shutout with nine saves for the Firebirds (10-1) who came into the game ranked ninth in the Southeastern Pennsylvania Soccer Coaches poll. Judge (10-2) is ranked second.

Public. Markus Malave converted a 25-yard free kick into the tying goal and his second of the game as Franklin Towne Charter and host Washington battle to a 2-2 double-overtime deadlock.

Ogbogu Ukuku headed in a cross with 10 minutes left and handed Masterman a 1-0 win over host Lincoln.

Abrahim Fosana scored the last of his two goals in overtime and handed Bartram a 4-2 win over host Philadelphia Academy Charter.

Northeast got goals from Matt Feinstein, Judrick Fletcher, Muhammed Had and Shavar Shepherd and beat host Prep Charter, 4-1.

Suburban One National. Playing in his third game since recovering from a ruptured spleen, Billy McConnell notched a hat trick and led Council Rock North to a 4-1 win over visiting William Tennent.

Ryan Laska scored twice for Council Rock South in a 4-1 win over visiting Truman.

Suburban One Continental. Kevin Bailey scored with four minutes left and gave Pennridge a 2-1 win over host Central Bucks South.

Chris Davidson scored 18 minutes into the game and boosted North Penn past visiting Central Bucks East, 2-0.

Field Hockey

Alex Duckenfield's goal off a corner with 11 minutes, 40 seconds left in the first half gave Strath Haven a 1-0 nonleague win at Downingtown West. Kylie deGrouchy had five saves to record her eighth shutout in goal for the Panthers (8-3). Strath Haven is unscored upon in six Central League games.

Freshman midfielder Samantha Paules scored her first varsity career goal with 17 minutes left in the first half to give host Academy Park a 1-0 win over Harriton.

Ali Grimaldi's goal with 22 minutes left gave host Lower Moreland a 2-1 win over Upper Moreland.

Kerri Crumlish's second goal of the game rallied Sacred Heart to a 2-1 win at Archbishop Prendergast.

Catholic. Beth Lounsberry's goal three minutes into overtime gave host Bishop McDevitt a 3-2 win over St. Hubert.

Suburban One American. Kelly Cross and Stephanie Speese scored unassisted goals at the start of the first half to give Upper Dublin a 2-1 win at rival Cheltenham.

Girls' Soccer

Laura Lacy had three goals and an assist for Solebury School in its 6-1 Penn-Jersey League win at Villa Victoria (N.J.).

Central. Becca Winkler's first goal of the season turned out to be the game-winner for host Lower Merion in a 2-1 win over Penncrest. Winkler scored 20 minutes into the first half for the Aces (7-3-2).

Pioneer Athletic. Emily Diehl's 13th goal of the season broke a 1-1 tie and put host Boyertown on top for good in a 3-1 win over Spring-Ford.

Gabie Lent scored both goals for Upper Perkiomen in its 2-1 win at Pottsgrove.

Hailey Sherman had a goal and an assist as host Methacton beat Owen J. Roberts, 3-2, in overtime.

Catholic Academies. Lindsay Fluehr's second-half goal helped Nazareth Academy bury St. Basil, 1-0.

Christine Kindt scored twice and added a pair of assists for host Gwynedd-Mercy in its 5-2 win over Mount St. Joseph.

Tri-County. Marquise Blackwell had three goals for host Mercy Vocational in its 3-1 win over Del-Val Friends.
