Fri. S.J. girls’ roundup: Lenape reaches Coaches semifinals

Courtney Kovac set up Duffey's goal in the 57th minute, and goalie Allison Johnson needed just two saves to post the shutout for Lenape, seeded No. 1 in the 16-team field.

Cinnaminson, seeded eighth, got six saves from goalie Vicki Cocozza. Lenape will face Medford rival Shawnee in the semifinals at Eastern on Sunday.

Also in the Coaches Tournament, visiting Absegami, seeded 11th in the 16-team field, upset third-seeded Paul VI, 2-1, on Erica Skroski's two goals.

Skroski and Paul VI's Jenna Pedrick each had first-half goals, setting the stage for Skroski's game-winner with two minutes left in the second half off Nicole Belfonti's assist. Braves goalie Hannah Paugh made 11 saves.

Shawnee ousted host Williamstown, 2-0, with second-half goals by Shannon Dennehey and Shannon Nugent.

Dennehey broke the scoreless tie three minutes into the second half off an assist by Julie Gorman, and Nugent scored off a corner kick by Gorman. Renegades goalie Julia Brown made five saves in handing the Braves just their third shutout of the season.

Olympic. Timber Creek junior Olivia McEachern scored her 15th goal of the season on a shot from just inside the 18-yard mark midway through the second half as the Chargers edged host Cherry Hill West, 2-1.

Johanna Metzger's second-half goal snapped a 1-1 deadlock, lifting Seneca past visiting Triton, 2-1.

Tri-County. After Highland starting goalie Courtney Scharinger left the game with an injury in the first half, freshman Kari Vanderslice came off the bench and blanked visiting Kingsway the rest of the was as the Tartans rallied to win, 4-2.

Highland, which got two goals from Brianna Squilla, scored three straight goals after intermission.

Sam Riccelli scored a goal and assisted Maxie New's goal as Clayton dealt host Pitman a 2-0 setback.

With 4 minutes, 21 seconds left in the second half, Rachel Copare sent a corner kick to Rachel Gross for the decisive goal in Schalick's 2-1 win over visiting Delsea.

Colonial. Single goals from Kylie Armstrong, Alisha Fox, Laura Rathof, and Kersten Spissell carried Gateway past visiting Sterling, 4-0.

Woodbury turned single goals by Sydney Dennen, Morgan Johnson, and Annalisa Pedano into a 3-2 win at Overbrook.

Emily Carson's two-goal game led Haddonfield past host Paulsboro, 5-0.

Burlington County. Holy Cross and host Rancocas Valley played to a 2-2 draw. The Lancers' Shannon Grogan and Katherine Lamplugh matched RV's Alyssa Findlay and Gina Tricocci with goals.

Raquel Delgado netted the first two goals for Pemberton in a 3-0 triumph at Palmyra.

Cape-Atlantic. Oakcrest goalie Jordan Sayers made seven saves and set a school record for shutouts in a season with her ninth, but settled for a scoreless tie at Ocean City, which got eight saves from Victoria Wyand.

Cara Conover curved a corner kick into the net to give Egg Harbor Township a 2-0 lead, and joined teammates Jessica Brand and Laina Matus with two goals each in a 6-0 win over visiting Vineland.

Field Hockey

Rancocas Valley got a goal and two assists from Brynn Gitt during a 3-1, nonleague upset at Kingsway, ranked No. 9 in South Jersey by The Inquirer. Amanda Johnson and Alissa Martins also scored for the Red Devils.

Karlie Gruccio, who tied the game with 13:32 left in regulation, scored with three seconds to go in overtime as Buena stunned host Pennsville, 3-2.

Olympic. Second-ranked Shawnee, playing at home, pinned a 4-1 setback on No. 8 Camden Catholic. Becky Stiles registered a goal and an assist, and Katie Cahill, Nicole Troost, and Abby Watson added single goals.

Bishop Eustace freshman Sarah Furey provided a dramatic end to a 3-2 win over visiting Cherokee by scoring an unassisted goal with just six seconds left. Eustace, which had more corners, 18-3, also got two goals by Gabby Latorre.

Three goals each by Lindsey Hatch and Alison Kagel powered Washington Township's 10-0 win over visiting Timber Creek.

Tri-County. Pitman (9-8) clinched a playoff berth with a 4-0 win at Williamstown in which Katie Bastian scored twice, and Michelle Stafford chipped in with a goal and an assist.

Brittney Carney scored off Amanda Hennelly's pass from a penalty corner with 4:16 left in overtime, making Delsea a 1-0 winner over visiting Gloucester Catholic.

Cape-Atlantic. Corrine Etter scored twice and broke the Millville single-season record for freshmen with 11 goals, but the Thunderbolts suffered a 4-2 loss at Mainland. Julie Higginbotham led the Mustangs with two goals.

Cross-Country

Cherokee's Megan Lacy ran away from the field at the Olympic Conference championships, touring the Gloucester County College course in 17:35 and leading the Chiefs to the team title. Lacy finished 44 seconds ahead of her nearest competitor.

Tennis

Cinnaminson won four of five available titles in the Burlington County League championships at Veteran's Park.

After Burlington City's Magill Kurts won at first singles, the Pirates prevailed with Brigid Cosgrove at second singles, Sam Zarrilli at third singles, Ally Friedrich and Melissa Carberry at first doubles, and Jackie Iovine and Jaime Campbell at second doubles.
