Kan, who shot an even-par 72 on the first day of the two-day event at Heritage Hills Golf Club in York, slipped to a 79 on the second day but rallied to beat West Chester East's Gabriella DiMarco in a sudden-victory playoff.

Central Bucks East cruised to the team title with 689 strokes, easily outdistancing Fox Chapel (734) of District 7.

Jordan Glatt, Ashley Cassidy, Stephanie Yocum and Francesca Ruscio composed the Central Bucks East foursome.

Field Hockey

Sarah Hospodar and Lizzy Sack each had a goal and an assist as Merion Mercy cruised past visiting Pope John Paul II, 4-0, in the first round of the PIAA District 1 Class AA playoffs.

The fourth-seeded Golden Bears led the 13th-seeded Golden Panthers, 2-0, at halftime. They got a shutout from goalie Briana Kelley.

Christopher Dock advanced with a 4-0 win over visiting Octorara as Taylor Schwoyer scored twice.

Molly Mulhern's two goals helped host Gwynedd-Mercy get past New Hope-Solebury, 5-2.

Host Phoenixville rallied with a pair of second-half goals to top Harriton, 2-1. Megan Loughery's goal with 1:47 left won it for the Phantoms.

Karleigh Carlin scored all three goals for host Sacred Heart in its 3-1 win over Jenkintown.

Catholic. Three goals by Annie O'Hanlon were the difference for host St. Hubert in its quarterfinal playoff win over Bishop McDevitt.

Inter-Ac. Moira Putsch and Bree Buysse each had a goal and an assist for Notre Dame in its 4-0 win at Penn Charter.

The Irish (13-4, 9-0) also got three saves from goalie Emily Fuss.

Amy Jeckovich's goal off a penalty corner with 6:45 left in overtime gave host Germantown Academy a 2-1 win over Baldwin.

Friends Schools. Emily McQueen had two assists for host Academy of the New Church over George School.

Tri-County. Michelle Cocchimiglio's two goals gave host West-Mont Christian a 3-1 win over Kimberton Waldorf in a playoff semifinal.

Soccer

Katherine Weber's goal with 26 seconds left gave Unionville a 1-0 District 1 Class AAA first-round win at Hatboro-Horsham. Weber, a defender, bounced a 35-yarder in front of the goal and the ball went high enough over her head to find the top part of the net.

Brittany Stanko's overtime goal gave host Bishop Shanahan a 3-2 first-round win over Spring-Ford.

Methacton needed penalty kicks to beat visiting North Penn, 1-0, as Caitlin Kerkering converted the deciding kick.

Jessica Ryan's first-half goal gave West Chester Henderson a 1-0 win at Council Rock North.

Catholic. In a play-in game, host Cardinal O'Hara got a pair of goals from Megan Granata and two assists from Kelsey O'Kane in a 6-0 win over Neumann-Goretti.

Inter-Ac. Cailyn Alfieri and Kerry Lawlor each had two goals for host Germantown Academy in 5-0 win over Baldwin.

Haley Curtin had 12 saves for Notre Dame in a 3-1 win at Penn Charter.

Findlay Flasinski's two goals lifted host Agnes Irwin past Springside, 2-1.

Friends Schools. Melanie Sachs scored twice for host Friends' Central in a 5-0 win over Abington Friends.

Nonleague. Claire McManus scored twice for host Episcopal Academy in its 3-0 win over Germantown Friends.

Cross-Country

At Villa Victoria (N.J.), Betsy Silverstein's first-place finish helped Barrack Hebrew take the Penn-Jersey League team title. Silverstein covered the 3.5-mile course in 22:26.

Volleyball

Gina Powers had 28 assists for host Strath Haven in a 25-13, 25-13, 25-23 District 1 Class AAA first-round win over Quakertown.

In other first-round matches:

Nicole Sokolovich's 17 kills and 17 service points gave host Penncrest a 25-18, 25-21, 25-20 win over Haverford High.

Ellie Ezekiel had eight kills and two blocks for host Garnet Valley in its 25-16, 23-25, 25-19, 25-19 win over Methacton.

Caroline Anderson had 11 kills and 10 digs for host Council Rock North in a 25-9, 25-14, 25-21 win over Marple Newtown.

Grace Capuzzi had 23 assists for Bishop Shanahan in a 25-14, 25-10, 25-16 win over visiting Downingtown West.

Tennis

West Chester Henderson needed wins at third singles and both doubles to pull out a 3-2 win over Wilson West Lawn in a PIAA State quarterfinal match at the Arthur Ashe Tennis Center.

Also at Arthur Ashe in other quarterfinals, Radnor blanked Cardinal O'Hara, 5-0.

In Clarks Summit, Conestoga defeated host Abington Heights, 5-0.

In Class AA, Lower Moreland topped Lansdale Catholic, 5-0, and Harriton defeated Annville-Cleona, 5-0, both at the Arthur Ashe Tennis Center.

Inter-Ac. Baldwin topped host Penn Charter, 7-0, to clinch the first league championship in its history. Freshman singles player Connie Wang is now 10-1 on the year.
