Lower Merion made the most of a goal by Matias Fernandez-Duque to beat Pennsbury, 1-0, in a District 1 Class AAA semifinal soccer playoff West Chester East on Wednesday.
Fernandez-Duque scored from the penalty-kick area 10 minutes into the second half, after getting a crossing pass from Michael Lemonick.
The Aces (17-1-3) also got seven saves from Emmitt McConnell and will face either Central Bucks West or Conestoga on Saturday night (8 p.m.) at West Chester University for the title.
The fifth-seeded Aces have now beaten a No. 28 seed (Chichester), a No. 21 (Marple Newtown) and a No. 13 (Pennridge) before knocking off ninth-seeded Pennsbury.
Public. Willie Geebli's first-half goal gave Bartram a 1-0 win at Northeast in the league championship game.
It was Bartram's first title since 2006.
In the league's Class A championship game, also at Northeast, Masterman topped Prep Charter, 3-0.
Cross-Country
At Phelps, Kimberton Waldford's Sebastian Romer covered the 3.1-mile course in 16 minutes, 54 seconds to easily outdistance the field and win the individual title in the Tri-County League Championships.
Romer's time was 19 seconds better than second-place finisher Dan Anderson of Collegium (17:13). Chris Meade of Perkiomen School (17:43) was third.
Collegium won the team title with 41 points, 20 ahead of second-place Perkiomen School.
Wooodlyde (68) finished third and Kimberton Waldforf (77) was fourth.
Postponement
Due to Thursday's weather forecast, the Tri-County League championship game between Del-Val Friends and West-Mont Christian was moved to Friday (3 p.m.) at the United Sports Complex in Downingtown.
