Stephanie Kates hit a three-pointer to force overtime and Jill Geidemann's subsequent free throws gave Philadelphia Academy Charter a 58-56 Public League basketball win over Community Academy of Philadelphia on Monday.
Kates drilled a three with three seconds left in regulation and Geidemann made two free throws with less than a minute left in the overtime to seal the win.
Geidemann led the Chargers (1-0) with 23 points.

Taryn Vinson scored 12 points and Sierra Wilkinson added 10 as Freire Charter topped visiting Mastery Charter, 34-17.
Frankford overwhelmed host University City, 64-23, behind Tanaya Lofton-Williams, who scored 19 points. Shanika McCloud added 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Ten players scored for Prep Charter in its 54-19 win at Southern, led by Kahleah Cooper's 12 points. Cooper scored eight of those points during a 22-5 first-quarter run.
Stephanie Ulmer hit five three-pointers and finished with 23 points to lead Franklin Towne Charter to a 46-28 win at Franklin Learning Center. Alicia Dorman led the Bobcats with 14 points.
Jeishla Gilmore scored 12 of her game-high 25 points in the first half to get Mariana Bracetti off to a good start in a 50-43 win over visiting Swenson.
New Media Charter got 19 points from Ranira Johnson in a 45-22 win over visiting Esperanza.
Nonleague. Friends' Central jumped out to a 25-5 lead and coasted to a 47-12 win at Academy of the New Church. Maria Conyers-Jordan scored nine of her 10 points in that opening quarter.
Upper Merion got the most out of its four-guard offense in a 57-24 win over visiting Upper Perkiomen. Casey Koenig, a junior guard, led the way with 18 points and Mary Jean Valeri, a freshman guard, added 12 points. Valeri scored nine of her points on three-point shots.
The Vikings start two other guards and a forward. One of the other guards, Jamie Mazzi, chipped in with 10 points.
Stacey Auckland carried the bulk of the scoring load for the Tribe with 14 points.
Penncrest held visiting Chichester to a two-pointer at the buzzer and won, 38-37.
The Lions (1-0) got 13 points from senior guard Charlotte Beebe and 11 more from freshman guard Lauren Huggins.
Chichester had the ball in the final 10 seconds and needed a three to tie and the Eagles made a shot, but the officials ruled that the player's foot was on the line.
Tri-County. Nicole Davis scored 23 points as host West-Mont Christian rolled to a 54-30 win over Woodlynde.
Penn-Jersey. Host Mercy Vocational outscored Solebury School, 8-2, in overtime to post a 49-43 win.
Trailing on the fourth quarter, Dejah Travis scored all three of her points on a layup and a free throw to force overtime.
The Monarchs made four of six free-throw attempts in overtime and were led by Teharah Worrell's 20 points.
Coaches Vs. Cancer Showcase. At Holy Ghost Prep, Nazareth Academy got 13 points from Maggie Borski and 10 more from Jessica Sylvester in a 53-40 Coaches vs. Cancer showcase tournament basketball win over Sacred Heart on Monday.
Even though the game was part of the Coaches vs. Cancer Showcase, it also counted in the Athletic Association of Catholic Academies league standings.
Sacred Heart was led Hannah Rush, a senior guard, who scored 14 points.
It was the first loss of the season for the Lions, who defeated Hallahan and Bishop McDevitt to win the Al Achuff Tournament.
