Pa. Boys: Late layup lifts Frankford to win in showcase

Frankford's Keith Washington capped a terrific afternoon by making a layup with eight seconds left to beat Constitution, 70-69, in a Southern High Showcase basketball game on Saturday.

Washington finished with 19 points to lead the Pioneers and dished out eight assists. He was named Frankford game MVP.

In other showcase games:

Devonte Glasper scored four points in overtime to lift Glen Mills past Southern, 66-63. Stefron Poole led the Battling Bulls with 17 points. Southern's Jermaine Flowers forced overtime with a half-court buzzer-beater.

Helped by Donte Watkins' four steals in the fourth quarter, West Philadelphia closed out the game with a 17-8 run to earn a 55-44 win over Central.

Abington Friends Coaches vs. Cancer. Behind MVP Jaleel Williams, Vaux won the championship with a 76-72 win over host Abington Friends, shooting 27 for 32 from the free-throw line.

Altoona Tournament. Norristown took the title with a 49-37 win over Abington behind MVP Aaron Webb's 17 points. Webb made seven of his 10 shots from the field.

Christian Brothers Showcase. At La Salle, the host Explorers cruised to a 45-33 win over St. Peter's (N.Y.) behind Eddie Mitchell's 13 points, seven rebounds and five steals.

In another showcase game at La Salle, West Catholic's Christian Gibbs made all 10 of his free throws to help the Burrs beat Calvert Hall (Md.), 35-31.

Dave Mercer Invitational. At Hill School, Luke Mulvaney scored seven of his game-high 16 points in the first quarter to get Chestnut Hill Academy off to a good start in a 36-27 win over Peddie School (N.J.).

Youcantcheckmeclassic. At Widener, Kyre Wooten scored 14 points as Imhotep Charter topped Penn Wood, 62-53.

Make-A-Wish Tournament. At Germantown Academy, the host Patriots got a pair of free throws with 6.7 seconds left from Greg Dotson to beat Archbishop Wood, 52-51, in the showcase event.

Mid-Atlantic Shootout. At Coatesville, Kevin Sweet scored 15 points and Derek Dyer added 13 as Central Bucks West outlasted Avon Grove, 57-51.

Malvern Prep junior guard Brendan Kilpatrick hit a contested jumper to send the game into overtime, allowing the Friars to earn a 64-60 win over Spring-Ford.

Nonleague. Eric Fleming, a 6-3 senior forward, scored 16 of his 18 points in the first half as host Archbishop Ryan rolled past Northeast, 62-28.

William Wingate scored half of his 14 points in the third quarter to help Mastery Charter North pull away to a 66-52 win at Bristol.

Gene Williams, a 6-3 sophomore forward, had 24 points and 11 rebounds for St. Joseph's Prep in its 55-33 win at Roxborough.

Dahmir Simmons made four of his six three-point attempts and finished with 20 point to lead host Downingtown East past Owen J. Roberts, 56-41.

Shakore Grant, a 6-7 center, had 14 points and 10 rebounds for Great Valley in a 65-39 win at Pottsgrove.

Omar Randall had 13 points for host Strath Haven in a 57-53 win over Academy Park.

Wrestling

Lower Merion swept both team and individual honors, as Zeke Zimmer (160) was named outstanding wrestler at the Radnor Tournament. Lower Merion amassed 247.5 points to beat the host school (219.5).

Pioneer Conference. Kyle Fellman's decision helped host Upper Perkiomen beat Methacton, 36-24.

Perkiomen Valley closed out the match with three straight pins to earn a 54-21 win over visiting Pottstown. Vaughn Gehman's 39-second pin of Monroe Hampton at 152 was the highlight.
