Prep Charter girls advance in Fla. tourney

After enjoying a sunny and 70-degree Monday in Boca Raton, Fla., Prep Charter's basketball team took care of business inside with a 57-50 win over North Broward Prep (Fla.) in a St. Andrew's Classic semifinal.

The game started nearly an hour after the sun went down, at 5:30, and that's when Kahleah Copper and Tiffany Johnson went to work.

Copper, a junior forward, had 20 points and 17 rebounds.

Johnson, a senior point guard committed to Drexel University, added 19 points and made 11 of her 13 free throws.

Johnson's pinpoint shooting at the line was reflective of her team as a whole as Prep Charter (4-0) finished the night shooting 24 for 30.

The Huskies (4-0) earned a date in Tuesday's championship game against Cyprus Bay (Fla.). That game also will begin after sundown (6:30). Tuesday's forecast high in Boca Raton is 73.

Bicentennial. Host Christopher Dock led, 26-7, at the half and coasted to a 48-10 nonleague win over Phil-Mont Christian as Olivia Bradford led the way with 12 points.

Bristol got 15 points apiece from a pair of juniors, Morgan Cullen and Nicole Cullura, in a 41-22 win over visiting Calvary Christian.

Alex Petrie had 10 of her 17 points in the first quarter as Plumstead Christian raced to a 12-4 lead in a 35-27 win at MaST Charter.

Plumstead Christian also got 10 points from Hope Caracappa.

Catholic Academies. Kellie O'Rourke scored 14 points to lead Villa Maria to a 58-54 win at Gwynedd-Mercy. The Hurricanes also got 12 points from Lisa Mirachi.

The Monarchs needed a 24-14 advantage in the fourth quarter to cut the final margin to four points. Morgan Sheridan led the Monarchs with 19 points.

Ches-Mont. Host Downingtown West rode Elizabeth Coyne's 24 points and nine rebounds to a 54-42 win over Avon Grove. Jasmine Jones led the Red Devils with 19.

Nonleague. Community Academy of Philadelphia went on a 16-8 run to close out the game and earn a 39-36 win over Math, Civics and Sciences on Monday afternoon.

The Bears got 11 points from forward Nariya Daniels and 10 more from guard Tamara Garcia.

Junior forward Elise Hagel made a pair of free throws with 3.2 seconds left to give Chichester a 36-34 win over visiting Sun Valley. Haley Sipple's 12 points paced the Eagles (3-3).

Lori Paulits scored 19 points to lead host Neshaminy past rival Conwell-Egan, 68-27.

Alicia Hayes scored 12 points as Hatboro-Horsham earned a 58-38 win at Truman.

After trailing at the end of the first quarter, Germantown Academy went on a 21-8 run and won at Chester, 65-37. Kiernan McCloskey led the Patriots (1-2) with 17 points.
