Todd Fairlie, a four-time all-American in two sports at Widener University, has been tabbed as the new football coach at Episcopal Academy.

With the Pride, Fairlie, 26, twice earned the honor as a midfielder in lacrosse and did the same as a safety in football. The Marple Newtown graduate played professional lacrosse, most recently in 2008 with the San Francisco Dragons in the Major League Lacrosse outdoor season. "I enjoyed playing," said Fairlie, who had a tryout with the Wings in the National Lacrosse League, "but I was ready to move on and start a career."

At Episcopal, Fairlie spent the last two seasons coaching the defensive backs. He teaches history at the middle school.

"We have a lot of good, young talent on the team," Fairlie said. "One of the nice things about me getting the job is that it's a familiar face for the kids."

Fairlie, of Broomall, replaces Bill Gallagher, 60, who stepped down after going 27-31 in six seasons with the Churchmen.
