Pa. Boys: Chester does it all for Robeson

Paul Robeson's basketball team was in trouble Tuesday, but Leonard Chester rode to the rescue in a big way. The Huskies were missing three starters and during the course of the game, four players fouled out. So Chester played every position on the floor, scored 32 points, and led his team past visiting Lamberton, 76-72, in a Public League Division E game.

Chester grabbed 10 rebounds and was 12 for 19 from the free-throw line. His performance offset a 31-point effort by Troy Yancy for the Blue Devils.

In other Public League action:

Ikeal Johnson picked up 17 points and boosted Elverson to a 62-60 win over host Sankofa Freedom.

Anthony Galdo scored 15 points as Rush held on to beat host GAMP, 44-41.

Eric Jarvis scored 13 of his 21 points in the final quarter and drained a pair of free throws with 11 seconds left to give Mastbaum a 62-58 win over visiting Swenson.

Jermaine Flowers and Antwain Rucker each scored 13 points for Southern in a 57-53 win over visiting Bartram.

Malik Wesley dropped in 17 points and lifted Freire Charter past host Mariana Bracetti, 49-44.

Cristian Rojas scored six of his eight points in overtime and gave Fels a 69-65 win over visiting Olney. Rahamon Scott added 16 points for the Panthers. Malik Starkes nailed a three pointer at the buzzer for the Trojans to send the game into overtime.

William Wingate's 15 points and a solid defense allowed Mastery Charter North to beat host Hope Charter, 41-36.

Frankford used a 17-point performance by Keith Washington to beat host Northeast, 56-51.

New Media got 13 points from Kairi Joiner and got past visiting Parkway Northwest, 61-55.

Alonzo Carmelo and Samir Hill each scored 11 points to boost Overbrook past visiting Edison, 42-35.

Markeith Mont collected 19 points and 12 rebounds for World Communications in a 60-53 win over visiting Palmer.

Daiquan Means struck for 22 points and 15 rebounds and helped Furness beat visiting Bok, 78-71.

Martez Lyles accumulated 13 points and 15 rebounds as University City got past visiting Germantown, 54-46.

Malcolm Sturdivant came through with 23 points and sparked Masterman to a 62-54 win over visiting Carroll.

Trayvon King contributed 17 points as Martin Luther King downed visiting Kensington, 56-48, for its first win of the season.

Central. Omar Randall poured in 21 points and helped Strath Haven beat host Penncrest, 51-45.

Suburban One Continental. Ryan O'Neil dropped in 17 points and lifted Central Bucks East to a 56-50 win over host Hatboro-Horsham.

Pennridge got 17 points each from Tim Abruzzo and Mike Guldin and topped host North Penn, 59-51.

Suburban One American. James Mobley struck for 20 points including a pair of free throws with three seconds left to ice Upper Merion's 52-49 win over host Upper Dublin.

Pioneer Athletic. Elijah Jackson notched a pair of free throws with two seconds left and handed Pottstown a 53-52 win over visiting Pope John Paul II. Jackson scored 18 points.

Bicentennial. Mike Hutson came through with 19 points and led Phil-Mont Christian to a 47-43 win over host Girard College.

Nonleague. Joel Davidson scored 20 points as Cardinal O'Hara slipped past host Spring-Ford, 65-64.

Mike Brown (11 points) converted a three pointer from the top of the key at the buzzer and gave Penn Charter a 44-41 win over visiting Archbishop Ryan.

Lamon Church (18 points) and DeQuann Walker (12 points) combined for 17 points in the fourth quarter and lifted Chester to a 71-64 win over visiting Reading.

Wrestling

Sam Reid earned a pin at 215 pounds and handed Central a 39-33 win over host Penn Charter in a nonleague match.

Reid's pin came with 20 seconds left in the second period.

Ryan Stanton pinned in 1 minute, 52 seconds at 189 pounds for St. Joseph's Prep in a 45-18 win over host Chestnut Hill Academy.
