Monsignor Bonner has had a rough start to the basketball season, but a long-distance shot at the buzzer eased the pain a bit on Thursday.
Perkiomen Valley tied the game with 6 seconds left, but Billy Cassidy nailed a shot from 24 feet away and handed the Friars a 56-53 win over the visiting Vikings in a nonleague game.
After Perkiomen Valley tied it, Cassidy inbounded to Shawn McCafferty who sent the ball back to Cassidy at midcourt. Cassidy took the ball to the right of the key, from where he launched the game-winner.
Cassidy scored 11 points and Josh Hoho scored six of his 14 points in the final quarter for Bonner (2-4).
Yusef Savage picked up 12 points and sparked Northeast to a 50-46 win over visiting FitzSimons. Savage scored seven points in the first quarter and grabbed nine rebounds.
Da'Quan Ballenger collected eight of his 21 points in the third quarter and lifted Swenson to a 57-48 win over host Philadelphia Academy Charter.
Haverford School sprinted to a 20-7 lead in the first quarter and went on to beat host Cardinal O'Hara, 57-36. The Fords got 13 points from Rashaan Hollman.
Jameer Nelson/Philly.com Tournament. Daiquan Walker and Xavier Harris each scored 17 points to boost Constitution to a 65-56 win over Dobbins at Widener University.
Also at Widener, Amile Jefferson turned in a monster game and led Friends' Central to an 86-67 win over Life Center (N.J.).
Jefferson scored 28 points, grabbed 22 rebounds, handed out seven assists, blocked five shots, and was named the most valuable player of the game.
Savon Goodman scored 19 points and was named the most valuable player of the game as Academy of the New Church dumped Princeton Day Academy (Md.), 71-49. Goodman also pulled down 11 rebounds.
Penncrest Tournament. Desmond Austin struck for 16 points and was named to the all-tournament team as West Chester Henderson beat the host Lions, 62-54, in the championship game.
T.J. White added 12 points and was named the most valuable player of the tournament.
Ridley Tournament. Luke Moyer notched 20 points and led Souderton past the host Green Raiders, 49-41, in the championship game.
Moyer helped secure the win by converting all five of his free throws in the final quarter.
Athletes Helping Athletes Tournament. Host Council Rock North won its second-straight title after beating Cheltenham, 68-53.
John Raymon scored 19 points and Aaron Goodman was named the tournament MVP after scoring 18 points for the Indians.
Eric Fleming scored 20 points and Christian Rivera picked up six of his 12 points in overtime as Archbishop Ryan topped Central Bucks South, 64-58, in the consolation game.
Midd-West Tournament. Jahyde Gardner and Malik Wesley scored 29 points each and led Freire Charter to the tournament title with an 85-48 win over host Middleburg.
Wesley was named the MVP of the tournament.
Lewistown Tournament. Lamont Clark scored 16 points and was named the most valuable player of the tournament as Octorara ripped Somerset, 81-44, in the championship game.
Valley Forge Christian College Holiday Tournament. Antwan Laster drained four free throws in the final 1 minute, 30 seconds to give International Christian a 38-36 win over Timothy Christian in the title game.
Laster scored 10 points, and tournament MVP Justin Robinson scored 14 points for the Titans.
Harrisburg Slamfest. Corey Blake poured in 23 points and led West Chester Rustin past Pocono Mountain East, 68-62, in the consolation game.
Blake scored eight points in the third quarter and was named to the all-tournament team along with teammate Anthony Nash.
Jack Schott Tournament. Kyle Bonner came through with 17 points and helped Conwell-Egan beat host Holy Ghost Prep, 55-46, in the consolation game.
Bonner nailed three three-pointers and was named to the all-tournament team, as was teammate Sean McCarthy, who scored nine points.
Boardwalk Basketball Classic. Carrington Ward scored 17 points, but Philadelphia Electrical fell to Pennsauken (N.J.), 59-58, in an Atlantic Cup Bracket game.
Eddie Mitchell scored 20 points and handed out 11 assists for La Salle in a 62-42 win over Communications Tech in a George Betz Bracket game.
Paul VI Tournament. Keith Richardson scored 18 points and Kendall Truitt added 17 points for Washington, but the Eagles fell to Camden Catholic (N.J.), 98-68, in a showcase game.
Cheltenham sprinter Matt Gilmore walked to the winner's podium twice at the Bob Burdette Classic at Lehigh University.
Gilmore won the 200-meter dash in 22.37 seconds and took the 400-meter dash in 50.49 seconds.
Anthony Spadafora needed 19 seconds to earn a pin at 140 pounds and helped Conwell-Egan beat Bristol, 39-20, at the Conwell-Egan Duals.
Liberty Holiday Classic. Matt Martoccio won the title at 145 pounds and helped Council Rock South to a fourth-place finish in Bethlehem Wednesday.
The Golden Hawks scored 166 points to finish two points behind St. Mark's (Del.). Martoccio beat Anthony Farole of Lehighton, 13-5, to win his title.
