Camden Catholic clicks on all cylinders vs. Wilson

In a 63-45 road win over Woodrow Wilson on Tuesday night, everything was working for the Camden Catholic girls' basketball team.

In a 63-45 road win over Woodrow Wilson on Tuesday night, everything was working for the Camden Catholic girls' basketball team.

The Irish ran the ball well in transition, moved the ball well on set plays, and were aggressive on defense.

With four three-pointers, Nicole Angelo handled the Irish's outside shooting.

In the post, senior center Addy Crenny turned in a career-high 36 points, 10 rebounds, and four blocks for the Irish.

"It was just an awesome win for us because both our inside and outside shooting was on all night," said Crenny, whose team improved to 3-1 in the Olympic Conference National Division and 8-2 overall. "It's usually one or the other. So it was nice to see both sides of it working tonight."

Woodrow Wilson guard Shanice Maynard had an outstanding game for the Tigers. The senior guard scored 30 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

Maynard kept Wilson (6-5, 1-2) in the game during a back-and-forth first quarter that ended with Camden Catholic ahead by 17-14.

Maynard netted 12 points in the opening period, including a three-pointer with 2 minutes, 29 seconds left to cut Camden Catholic's lead to 13-12.

But, after Maynard's bucket, Camden Catholic went on a 22-8 run, building a comfortable lead that it never lost.

"We played hard tonight," Woodrow Wilson coach Mark Phillips said. "But we're a young team, so it's tough sometimes."

The Tigers ended the first half down by 34-23 but continued fighting in the early minutes of the second half. Woodrow Wilson scored six of the third quarter's first 10 points.

But a three by Angelo with 4:12 left in the quarter sent Camden Catholic on 15-0 run, stretching into the fourth quarter.

"We just worked really well as a team today," said Angelo, who finished with 16 points and three steals. "And working as a team is what's really completed our game this year.

"We play team defense, we get steals, and we run fast breaks. It's just been working out really well."

Crenny continued to dominate the paint in the fourth quarter, scoring her team's first nine points and building the Irish's lead up to 58-31 with a little less than four minutes left.

With the win, Camden Catholic, the No. 5 team in The Inquirer's South Jersey Top 10, extended its unbeaten streak to seven.

"We've just been working hard, and it's paying off," Irish coach Chris Palladino said. "We've been having good practices, taking it one game at a time, and we're just playing the game.

"We played against a good team tonight, and this was a good win."
