Central wins Public League tennis crown

Central coach Mike Horowits is a perfect 5 for 5 in Public League boys' tennis title matches, thanks to Daniel Spivack.

Spivack won his match at No. 3 singles and clinched the league title for the Lancers, who beat Masterman, 3-2, at the Arthur Ashe Tennis Center Thursday.

Spivack beat Sergio Muniz, 6-4, 7-6 (4), to earn the victory. Central has now won a league title in each of Horowits' first five seasons and paid the Blue Dragons back for a pair of 3-2 losses during the regular season.

Friends Schools. Declan Hahn won his match at No. 1 singles and propelled Friends' Central to its third consecutive league title with a 5-0 win over visiting George School.

Girls' Lacrosse

Nicole Pupillo collected five goals and Rose Mazzamuto scored twice as Perkiomen School won the Tri-County League title with a 9-8 victory over host Barrack Hebrew.

District 1. Maddy Lynch came through with four goals and helped No. 5 seed Springfield (Delaware County) beat visiting No. 12 seed Hatboro-Horsham, 14-10, in a second-round playoff game.

Baseball

Rob Gore tossed a one-hitter with 13 strikeouts and helped Marple Newtown beat visiting Harriton, 7-0, to clinch a Central League division title.

Public. Dan Meade pitched a five-inning two-hitter as Washington handled visiting Olney, 12-1, in a Class AAAA second-round playoff game.

In a Class AA quarterfinal game, Michael Borelli and Juwan Jordan combined on a three-inning perfect game and led Prep Charter to a 15-0 win over visiting Strawberry Mansion. Borelli also hit a two-run homer.

Boys' Lacrosse

No. 8 seed Abington got two goals each from Ryan Ambler, Matt Figueroa, Brian Gallagher, and Matt Lomady and edged visiting No. 9 seed Great Valley, 11-9, in a District 1 second-round playoff game.
