Fri. S.J. boys’ roundup: Pennsville reaches tennis final

Pennsville's Pat Finlow outlasted Haddon Township's Chris Mulroy for a win at first singles, helping the visiting Eagles grab a 3-2 win on Friday in the semifinals of the NJSIAA South Jersey Group 1 boys' tennis tournament.

Pennsville's Pat Finlow outlasted Haddon Township's Chris Mulroy for a win at first singles, helping the visiting Eagles grab a 3-2 win on Friday in the semifinals of the NJSIAA South Jersey Group 1 boys' tennis tournament.

Finlow grabbed a 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) win, and Pennsville, seeded third in a nine-team field, also got straight-set victories from Brett Lankanau at second singles, and Tyler Ascenzi and Sam Stafford at first doubles against the second-seeded Hawks.

Pennsville will face Glassboro for the sectional title on Tuesday.

S.J. Group 2. Haddonfield will meet Middle Township for the championship after bouncing visiting Woodstown from the tournament semifinals, 5-0.

The doubles teams of Sean Campbell and Isaac Anderson, and Anthony Celenza and Max Prescott each lost just two games in straight-set wins.

Haddonfield added singles wins from Max Oberholtzer, Luke Grabiak and Matt Godlewski.

Baseball

Vaughn Champion's third hit of the Cape-Atlantic League game was a decisive two-run in the bottom of the seventh inning to secure Absegami's 3-2 win over visiting Vineland.

Also in the Cape-Atlantic, Mainland plated three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and held on for a 5-4 triumph over visiting Atlantic City.

In the sixth, Austin Klock scored on an error and Nick Radico had a two-run double as Mainland took a 5-3 lead, but the Vikings got a run in the seventh and had a runner in scoring position with one out before reliever Joe Fortunato ended the threat.

Sophomore Zack Vogelei belted a grand slam in the sixth inning, highlighting Middle Township's 10-2 win over visiting Wildwood Catholic. Richie Schmidt pitched a complete game and also went 2 for 4 with two RBIs.

Chris Repice doubled and tripled for six RBIs, and Tovine Potts and Chris Bell homered as Sacred Heart whipped host Cape May Tech, 20-0.

Lacrosse

Rancocas Valley bowed out of the first round of the NJSIAA state Group 4 tournament with an 8-2 loss at Howell. Killian McGiboney and Drew Pagenkopf scored for the Red Devils.

Olympic. Jared Hand scored two goals and assisted on five others as one of nine scorers for Cherry Hill East in a 17-7 win at Paul VI.
