Pa. Girls: Arch. Carroll's Beaty is perfect in win over Arch. Prendergast

Plenty of athletes gave good performances in a number of sports on Saturday, but only Archbishop Carroll's Kristin Beaty was perfect.

Beaty pitched a seven-inning perfect game as Archbishop Carroll topped host Archbishop Prendergast in a Catholic League softball playoff quarterfinal, 5-0.

Beaty struck out six and got help in the field from her teammates, particulary shorstop Julie Stipa, who had seven assists, four coming on diving stops, including the game-ending out.

At the end of the game, the Prendergast team gave both the ball and the pitching rubber to Beaty.

Del-Val. Interboro captured the league title with a 7-0 shutout of visiting Chichester. Olivia Encarnacion scattered five hits to get the win.

Ches-Mont. Downingtown West nailed down the league's No. 2 seed in the District 1 Class AAAA playoffs with a 10-0 win over visiting West Chester Henderson.

The Whippets were in command from start to finish, thanks to the pitching of Casey Herring, who gave up only two hits and struck out eight in six innings.

The win earned the Whippets the No. 10 seed in the district playoffs; they will host Penncrest on Monday.

Downingtown East is now the league's No. 3 seed and also earned a home playoff game on Monday against Norristown.

Friends Schools. Gabby Garza pitched a four-hitter and Abington Friends earned its way into the league title game with a 5-0 win over visiting Friends Select. Garza pitched all seven innings, striking out five.

Maria Savarese went 2 for 3 with a pair of RBIs for the Kangaroos.

Pioneer Athletic. Visiting Boyertown dethroned defending champion Spring-Ford, 3-1, to take the title behind Krista Schauder's four-hit pitching effort.

Home runs by Darby Girton and Wynne McCann produced the three runs for the Bears (14-6).

Downingtown East's Ashley Poli scored four goals and added a pair of assists in leading the top-seeded Cougars to a 12-6 win over Upper Dublin in a District 1 Tournament quarterfinal on Saturday at West Chester East.

The Cougars (20-1), ranked No. 1 in the state and No. 11 in the nation, also got three goals from Kelly Devlin in beating the 16th-seeded Cardinals.

The Cougars also got 13 saves from senior goalie Allison Murray, who is one of the two goalies named to the U.S. Under-19 national team, which will begin play this summer.

Also at West Chester East, Garnet Valley defeated Council Rock North, 15-6, as Ally Heavens contributed four goals and two assists, Halley Barnes scored three goals, and AnnaElise Morello added two goals and two assists.

Springfield (Delaware County) rallied from a 9-6 halftime deficit to slip past Harriton, 13-12.

Pa. Independent Schools. Penn Charter won a tournament semifinal, 16-9, over Baldwin behind Kate Higgins' five goals, and three each from Julia Fleming and Emma Ebert.

Germantown Friends and George School finished with 124 points each to share the Friends Schools League team title at Germantown Friends, the first shared title in league girls' history, an oddity that also happened in the boys' championships.

The Cougars' Emily Mapelli won the 400 meters (59.94 seconds) and high jump (4 feet, 10 inches). Teammates Priscilla Wiggins (800 and 1,600) and Christina Haney (100 hurdles, 300 hurdles) also were double individual winners.
