Pa. Girls: Nazareth wins 5th straight AACA title

At Arcadia University, the Pandas (18-1) topped St. Basil, 4-2, with the key hit being that hit-and-run single by Molly Scullion in the fifth inning that turned a 1-0 lead into a 4-0 advantage.

Freshman Taylor Lichtenhahn pitched a solid seven innings, scattering six hits, to earn the win.

The Pandas are the No. 1 seed in the District 1 Class AAA playoffs that begin on Friday.

Friends Schools. In the championship game, host Abington Friends beat Shipley, 8-2, behind the pitching of Kelsey Clark, who allowed four hits and struck out 10. It was the third win of the season for the Kangaroos (14-3) over the Gators. AFS finished 12-0 against league opponents.

District 1 Class AAAA. In a first-round game, Savannah Nierintz pitched a four-hitter as host Upper Darby beat Plymouth Whitemarsh, 4-2. Amy Jackson had two hits, and Emily McGrath drove in a pair of runs for the Fords.

Downingtown West beat visiting Penncrest, 2-0, as Casey Herring pitched a two-hitter and Sydney Robey went 3 for 3.

Marissa Gonzalez went 3 for 4 to pace an 11-hit attack for Del-Val League champion Interboro in its 7-3 win at Haverford High.

Brianna Andraos allowed just two hits and pounded out three of her own for West Chester East in its 7-0 win at Wissahickon.

Lauren Butts pitched the shutout for West Chester Henderson in its 1-0 win at Council Rock North.

Host Downingtown East scored the winning run on a suicide squeeze by Michelle Lewis in the fifth inning of a 1-0 win over Norristown. Cassie Blyler pitched a five-hitter.

Public. Northeast won at host Central, 10-0, behind the strong pitching of Ashley Hagen and the hot bat of Destiny Oxford. Hagen allowed five hits, and Oxford was 3 for 3 with a pair of RBIs.

In other playoff games:

Rebecca Wilson's third home run of the season, a grand slam in the fourth inning, powered host Prep Charter past GAMP, 14-0.

Deanna Robinson went 2 for 3, scored a pair of runs, and added a two-run double in the fifth to help host Franklin Towne Charter past Esperanza, 15-5.

Masterman scored two seventh-inning runs walks to break a tie and beat host Philadelphia Academy Charter, 5-3.

Penn-Jersey. In a league semifinal playoff game, host Girard College used a 3-for-4 day at the plate from winning pitcher Tayla Gould in an 11-10 win over Doane Academy (N.J.). Catcher Joyce Randolph threw out four runners attempting to steal.

Lacrosse

Top-seeded Girls High (11-0) remained unbeaten with a 21-3 Public League semifinal playoff win at Northeast, getting four goals apiece from Siena Childs, Somaly Kim, and Chasidy McLaurin.

In the other semifinal at Gratz, Washington rallied from a 3-1 halftime deficit to beat Mastery Charter, 6-4, as Katrine Metakova scored three goals.

Pa. Independent Schools. Episcopal Academy used five goals from Blake McHugh to beat Penn Charter, 14-6, in a tournament game at Eastern University.
