Wed. S.J. girls’ roundup: Audubon’s Small earns 200th victory

Audubon softball coach Erin Small celebrated her 200th win Wednesday, when the Green Wave held off visiting Gateway, 7-4, in a Colonial Conference game.

Senior shortstop Melissa Jost batted 2 for 3 and drove in a run for Audubon, which will continue its 11th season under Small at home Thursday with a South Jersey Group 1 quarterfinal against Penns Grove.

South Jersey Group 4. Kelsey Cheek, whose 100th career hit had broken up Erica Fisher's no-hit bid in the sixth inning, singled to spark a two-run rally in the bottom of the eighth that made eighth-seeded Oakcrest a 2-1 winner over No. 9 seed Clearview.

After the Pioneers broke through for a run off winning pitcher Stephanie Hand in the top of the eighth, Cheek singled and scored on Hand's double. Sarah Chamberlain followed with a sacrifice fly, bringing home Amanda Liepe with the winning run.

Burlington County League Tournament. Emily Bausher whiffed the first batter of the game, giving her 1,000 career strikeouts, and her two-run home run opened the scoring in the third inning to put New Egypt on track for a 3-0 victory over Holy Cross in the title game at Northern Burlington.

Moorestown Tournament. Moorestown claimed the tourney title for the third consecutive year with some last-inning drama.

Dana Sleeper, who singled and advanced to third on an error and a passed ball, scored the go-ahead run on Charlotte Fife's groundout in the top of the seventh. In the bottom of the frame, Audrey Weller induced a pair of pop-ups to wriggle out of a bases-loaded jam and preserve the Quakers' 4-3 victory over Collingswood.

Cape-Atlantic. Liz Puentes tossed a two-hit shutout and batted 3 for 4 with four RBIs, including a two-run homer, as host St. Joseph blanked Bridgeton, 12-0. Ashley Romeo also enjoyed a big day at the plate for the Wildcats, producing two hits, three runs and four RBIs.

Karlie Gruccio (3 for 3, 3 runs, 6 RBIs) and Ashley Surran (3 RBIs) each homered in Buena's 19-0 romp past visiting Pleasantville. Allison Collins struck out seven and shut out the Greyhounds on one hit.

Nonleague. Lindsay Sheehan narrowly missed recording her first no-hitter in the final start of her career, but Winslow Township still sent the senior off a winner - 5-0 over visiting Pennsauken Tech. Sheehan struck out nine, walked two, and allowed only a two-out single in the first inning by losing pitcher Ashley Cimorelli. Winslow's key hit was a two-run single by Nicole Pangia in the fifth.

Lexi Klein of Moorestown and Williamstown's Amber Smith each shot a three-over par 77 in tying for third, and Moorestown finished tied for fourth in team scoring at 381 in the Girls State Championship held at Bamm Hollow Country Club in Lincroft, N.J.

Ridge won the team title with four players shooting 355 over 18 holes. The individual champion was Governor Livingston's Scotland Preston, who carded a 74.
