Wood coach: Brandon Peoples commits to Temple

Brandon Peoples hoped to keep things quiet and not announce his college decision until Wednesday.

Brandon Peoples hoped to keep things quiet and not announce his college decision until Wednesday.

So much for that.

This is the Age of Immediacy, folks, and once one person knows, often it does not take long for "every" to slip in front of "one."

"We'll still have the press conference on Wednesday," Steve Devlin, the football coach at Archbishop Wood High said Friday night. "Brandon will be surrounded by friends and family, and the words will come out of his mouth."

For now, not by choice, Devlin has to carry the commitment ball. Yes, Peoples, a 5-10, 180-pound junior running back and the first cousin of another Wood star, Desmon Peoples (also a junior rusher and a recent Rutgers commit), has made his decision, and the choice is . . . Temple.

"Brandon had UConn and another D-I school on him, and a ton of I-AA schools," Devlin said. "Temple has been on him through the spring, and he was down there last week for a camp. He really likes how they're doing things [under new coach Steve Addazio] and when they offered, well, that was exactly what he wanted.

"He'll be a back in that Florida-style offense. He can run, go in motion, catch the ball. He'll be able to do a lot of things for them. Brandon also loves that he'll be close to home."

In addition to the Peoples cousins, junior tight end Colin Thompson has committed to Florida. Wednesday's news conference, Devlin said, also will feature offensive lineman Frank Taylor. Devlin said Taylor has narrowed his choices to Pitt, Rutgers, Boston College, Michigan State and Harvard.
