A confident Brooklawn team took the field against Midland on Saturday night in the second consecutive rain-delayed game of the Senior American Legion World Series tournament in Shelby, N.C.

Having overcoming a two-run deficit Friday to beat Waipahu, Hawaii, Brooklawn was feeling pretty good for the Michigan Regional champions in the double-elimination tournament.

However, that confidence was replaced by disappointment when Midland (Mich.) rallied to win, 8-4.

Brooklawn (1-1) is scheduled to play Las Vegas (1-1) on Sunday in an elimination game. Casey Brown or Bill Mendek is expected to start for Brooklawn.

Midland broke open the game in the bottom of the eighth inning, snapping a 4-4 tie by scoring four runs.

Andrew Schorr, who relieved Brooklawn starter Mike Shawaryn in the bottom of the sixth, gave up two runs in the seventh as Midland tied the score, 4-4.

Brooklawn had taken a 4-1 lead in the top of the sixth. Joe Santone hit an RBI single. Brett Tenuto scored on a fielder's choice, and then Joe Brue slammed a two-run single to right field, scoring Joe Santone and Pat Kane.

Midland got a run back in the bottom of the inning, when Alex Rapanos slammed a homer off starter Mike Shawaryn to make the score 4-2. Shawaryn, who pitched two-thirds of an inning, was relieved by Andrew Shorr, who got the loss.

Midland tied the score, 4-4, in the bottom of the seventh when Jordon Herman smacked a two-run single with the bases loaded. However, Schorr struck out Alex Goodwin to end the inning.

"They are a good team. We just made some mistakes and they didn't," Brooklawn manager Dennis Barth said. "We had three errors. They had none. Plus, we left guys in scoring position."
