The visiting Owls used a ground game that piled up 377 yards to claim a 23-6 nonleague win against host Overbrook.
Kelly, who replaced Dan McShane, watched running back C.J. Lebesco carry the ball 19 times for 157 yards. Lebesco scored on runs of 1 and 30 yards, Kevin Hopkins notched an 8-yard TD run to open the scoring, and Alec Rosenfeld booted a field goal.

Bishop McDevitt 40, Lower Moreland 0 - Keith Young scored the first four touchdowns of the season for Bishop McDevitt, sparking the visitors in a shutout of Lower Moreland.
Young carried the ball 22 times for 209 yards, including TD runs of 49, 1, 20, and 12 yards. Gerald Fuller added 87 yards as part of McDevitt's 332-yard ground attack.
McDevitt's defense was paced by Eric Edwards with nine tackles and Curtis Brooks with eight. Dom Davis and Darren Wright had interceptions.
Mastery Charter 14, Jenkintown 7 - Mastery's first-year program began with a win at Jenkintown, powered by running back Malcolm Coston.
The Drakes scored first on Mike Jalowenko's short TD plunge, but Coston answered with scoring runs of 55 and 72 yards before the end of the first quarter. Coston gained 217 yards rushing.
Jenkintown threatened with a pass to the end zone on the final play of the game, but it fell incomplete.
Cheltenham 35, Truman 0 - Marc Thompson took a handoff and raced 98 yards for a touchdown in the opening quarter, and the junior went on to finish with 169 yards on just seven carries, as the host Panthers trounced Truman.
Hyneef Dockery added two rushing touchdowns and a 36-yard TD pass to Aquil Reed. Reed (9 carries, 88 yards) also scored on a 1-yard plunge.
Harriton 41, Chichester 26 - Pat Moriarty passed for three touchdowns to Juwan Valentine, and Valentine also returned a punt 70 yards for a score against the visitors.
Central Bucks West 10, Upper Dublin 7 - Nick Danilo put C.B. West ahead as the senior found no trouble with a 26-yard field goal midway through the fourth quarter.
The Bucks defense won the turnover battle as they forced both an interception and fumble.
Sherrod Higginbotham opened up the scoring with his first quarter touchdown run. Upper Dublin's Chris Naughton caught a 59 yard pass from Andrew Derr to tie the game at 7-7 in the second quarter.
Bethlehem Liberty 35, Glen Mills 21 - After leading at halftime, the Glen Mills Bulls were stymied in the second half as they failed to find the end zone.
Three Bethlehem Liberty carriers rushed for over 70 yards highlighted by Devon Jones' 86 yards on just four carries (21.5 yards per carry).
Senior tailback George Walker rushed for 160 yards on 22 carries to lead Glen Mills.
Boys' Latin 36, Morrisville 6 - The only slight on Ben Coulibaly's night was that he fell 2 yards shy of 200. The 5-foot-11, 142-pound junior shredded the Morrisville defense for 198 yards on 19 carries and three touchdowns.
The Warriors scored 24 points in the second quarter, topped off by a 37 yard Coulibaly touchdown reception from Eric Lark to put the team ahead 30-0 at halftime.
Springfield (D) 35, Interboro 21 - Interboro was unable to contain the big play, as all five of Springfield's touchdowns came from beyond 35 yards. Rob Murphy returned a punt 65 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter and rushed for a 62-yard score in the second quarter for the Cougars. Brad Lord nailed all five of his extra points.
Lower Merion 34, Mastbaum 6 - Ernest Pendleton raced to the end zone on first-half runs of 26 and 63 yards to stake Lower Merion to a 14-0 lead against the visiting Panthers.
Pendleton, who gained more than 100 yards and also picked off a pass on defense, was supported by TD runs from teammates Max Golden, Mike Deuber, and Ari Wilen.
Strath Haven 42, Upper Moreland 6 - The Panthers running game proved to be too much for visiting Upper Moreland as Strath Haven rushed for five scores.
Senior James Griffin ran for two touchdowns in the first half, one from five yards and another from 11. Senior Andrew Crawford rushed for two scores in the third quarter, topping his night off with a 41 yard touchdown scamper.
Quakertown 27, Upper Perkiomen 20 - Quakertown scored all their points in the first half and held on for the win on the road. The Panthers scored three times in the second quarter to go ahead 27-6 at the half.
Nick Nagele scored on a 60 yard run in the first quarter and Zac Gravelle scored twice in the second quarter, including one from 51 yards out.
Marple Newtown 42, Sun Valley 0 - Senior Cimirrow Moat had his way with the Vanguards defense as he rushed for 256 yards on 16 carries.
Council Rock South 42, C.B. South 20 - Brian Donnelly rushed for three of his four touchdowns in the first quarter, and contributed 182 yards on 18 carries as the Golden Hawks rolled up 410 yards on the ground.
Emmaus 35, Germantown 12 - Cedric Wright completed 15 of 28 passes for 192 yards, including a 22-yard scoring strike to Myles Brooker, but the host Bears couldn't muster enough offense to stay with Emmaus.
Neumann-Goretti 34, Furness 20 - Antwoine Powers piled up 185 yards on 22 carries, and reached the end zone on runs of 9, 1, and 26 yards to fuel visiting Neumann-Goretti.
Powers put the Saints ahead for good with his 26-yard TD in the third quarter, and Shane Thomas and John Mastrando threw scoring passes.
For Furness, Sharif Smith completed 7 of 11 passes for 98 yards, and ran for 78 yards and a touchdown.
University City 50, High School of the Future 0 - Karim Karamoko threw three touchdown passes, Marquis Howard took a punt back 72 yards for a TD, and the host Jaguars scored three times off turnovers in the rout.
Avon Grove 28, Kennett 21 - J.T. Blyden baffled the Blue Demon defense by rushing for 242 yards and four touchdowns on 19 carries, sending Avon Grove to a season-opening road win.
Barry Tomasetti starred for Kennett, passing for 59 yards and breaking off scoring runs of 65 and 80 yards to finish with 184 yards on the ground.
Calvary Christian 35, Kutztown 0 - Micah Cordon ran for 144 yards and three touchdowns, and his twin brother Matt added one TD and 68 yards rushing in the Cougars' home victory.

Del-Val Charter opened its Class AA division schedule with a 44-6 victory at Mariana Bracetti, boosted by two touchdowns each from Syeis McCloud and Donte Walker.
McCloud ran 26 yards for one score and caught a 5-yard pass from Rashaan McCabe for the other. Walker's TDs were runs of 26 and 28 yards, and McCabe also hit Dana Shaw with a game-opening 16-yard scoring strike.
Dobbins 12, Lincoln 0 - The Mustangs' win at Lincoln was highlighted by Dishon Solomon's 109-yard interception return for a touchdown with three minutes to go in the fourth quarter.
Solomon, a 6-foot, 170-pound junior, provided an insurance score after Delane Hart opened the scoring with a 20-yard TD reception from Traybon Saison in the third period.
Lincoln's best scoring chance came after recovering a fumble at the Mustangs' 10-yard line in the final minute, but a pass to the end zone was incomplete.
Bok 46, Southern 0 - The visiting Wildcats easily won the neighborhood rivalry with a defense led by Vito Goggins with two sacks and eight tackles, including four for losses.
Shaquil Sammons carried the ball 10 times for 71 yards and a touchdown and also caught a TD pass from Marquise Brown.
Southern's Wayne Brunson made seven tackles.
Fels 26, Ben Franklin 6 - Fels posted a touchdown in each quarter of a win over the visiting Electrons.
Isiah Brinley hit Nijay Kelly and Jylil Reeder with touchdown passes, and Jamiel Hines sprinted 102 yards with an interception for a score in the third period.
Roxborough 41, Edison 6 - Roxborough's Tymere Blue, a 5-10, 180-pound junior, gained 118 yards on the ground at Edison, including touchdown runs of 7 and 40 yards.
Adrian Johnson-Pope scored three times, catching passes of 25 and 15 yards from Nick Butts, and returning a punt for another.
Communications Tech 22, Simon Gratz 14 - Junior Zaki Jamison rushed for two goal-line scores in the third quarter to help the visiting Phoenix beat Simon Gratz.
Rolando Ransome helped pace the Phoenix offense as he rushed for 143 yards on 23 carries (6.2 yards per carry). Bernard Godwin returned an interception 45 yards to the house to tie the game, 8-8, before halftime. Simon Gratz's Gus Jenkins returned the opening kickoff of the second half 92 yards for a touchdown.
