Shipley shuts out Westtown in field hockey

Freshman center forward Demi Karalis recorded her first career two-goal game and the Gators' defense didn't allow a shot on net as Alex Cones posted her sixth shutout. It was the team's 10th win overall as it improved to 5-0 in league play. Shipley has allowed just one goal against league opponents.

Germantown Friends held off visiting Friends' Central, 3-0, behind two goals and an assist from Allison David. Maddie Andrews posted the shutout with 12 saves.

Inter-Ac. Leading by a goal at halftime, Germantown Academy poured it on in the second half and easily downed visiting Penn Charter, 5-0. Amy Jeckovich scored twice and added an assist as Tyler Wellington recorded the shutout with six saves.

Central. Sydney Cowles scored midway through the second half to give Radnor a 2-1 win at Springfield (Delaware County). Alyson Makous added a goal for the Red Raiders and Madi Shutt recorded eight saves for the win.

Suburban One. North Penn scored in the second half to slip past host Souderton, 3-2. Kelley Colbridge, Emily Ikeda and Juliamae Marger scored one goal each and Marger added an assist to lead the Maidens.

Nonleague. For the second time this season, Franchesca Aldrich posted a hat trick as George School knocked off host Friends Select, 4-1. Aldrich now has eight goals on the season.

Soccer

Needing just three saves, Caroline Schwartz recorded her eighth straight shutout to lead host Garnet Valley past Lower Merion, 2-0, in a Central League match.

The senior has 10 shutouts on the season, and all have been wins for the Jaguars. Senior midfielder Lizahn Visser scored both of Garnet Valley's goals.

Inter-Ac. Germantown Academy scored four times in the first half and featured five goal scorers as the Patriots easily knocked off Penn Charter, 5-1. Sophomore Kerry Lawlor recorded a pair of assists and added a goal. Megan McNamara added a pair of assists.

Friends Schools. Kasey Brida scored the game-winning goal with nine minutes left as Shipley won, 2-1, at George School. Sophie Katz added two assists and Alli Kothari turned away 10 shots for the win.

Claudia Rizzo scored five minutes after the opening tap and Friends' Central cruised to a 3-0 win at Westtown. Josephine Fisher and Emily Tedesco added goals and Megan Cartafalsa had the shutout.

Suburban One. Alexa Crocker and Sara Scheidell found the net and Council Rock North came away with a 2-0 win at National Conference foe Bensalem. Scheidell assisted on Crocker's goal.

Pioneer. Samantha Stipa scored three times and Megan Giannoupolis added another as Spring-Ford rolled over host Phoenixville, 4-1.

Nonleague. Senior captain Erin Casey converted a second-half penalty kick as Gwynedd-Mercy escaped with a 2-1 road victory over Upper Perkiomen. After Upper Perkiomen took an early first-half advantage, Taylor Caparo quickly struck back to tie the game for the Monarchs. Ally Fasano and Courtney Sullivan combined for 14 saves to post the win.

Freshman Kerri McGinley continued her torrid scoring pace as she recorded her team-high seventh goal of the season to lead St. Hubert to a 3-1 win at Cheltenham. Desirae Holmes added a goal and assist and Grace Lloyd recorded seven saves for the Bambies.

Nicol Natale scored a goal and added an assist as Merion Mercy knocked off visiting Archbishop Carroll, 3-1.

Tennis

Masterman (9-3) successfully defended its Public League Class AA championship with a 5-0 shutout of Parkway Northwest in the final at the University of Pennsylvania.

Singles players Katherine Loboda, Nadijah Campbell and Tori Wholey (11-1) combined to lose just three games in six sets. The Blue Dragons will face Washington in the overall league semifinals on Monday.
