Tues. Pa. boys'; roundup: Olney holds off Overbrook

Fred Frazier had two chances to be a hero on Tuesday, and the senior came through both times, allowing host Olney to outlast Overbrook, 54-53, in overtime in a Public League Division C boys' basketball opener.

After his free throw pulled the Trojans even with 8 seconds remaining in regulation, Frazier was fouled while attempting a shot at the overtime buzzer - and sank a pair of foul shots with no time remaining.

Shakeem Stevens (14 points) and Frazier (11) led the Olney attack.

In another dramatic Division C clash, senior point guard Abdoulay Gakou stole the ball and put in the winning layup at the final horn, making Esperanza a 46-44 winner at Mastery Charter North.

Zahir Firby scored 16 points and dealt five assists, Tramayne Brooks blocked three shots to go with his 14 points, and Shakoor Woodson totaled 12 points and five rebounds to pace Hope Charter's balanced attack to a 73-63 home win over Masterman. The Blue Dragons struggled to overcome a slow start despite 29 points from Mike Sturdivant.

I-Meir Martin led all scorers with 17 points and his second three-pointer of the game, a clutch heave from the left wing with 1.5 seconds left in regulation, boosted host Bok over Swenson, 53-51, in a Division D opener.

Marquise Richards picked up 16 of his 34 points in Paul Robeson's 24-11 second-quarter spree, but the host Huskies still needed DeJuan Butler's putback with 7 seconds to go in the final period to finish off Franklin Learning Center, 62-60, in a Division B thriller.

Diante Lunsford caught fire late, pouring in 14 of his 24 points in the fourth quarter as University City rallied past visiting Fels, 71-64. The Panthers placed five scorers in double figures, led by Christian Rojas with 15 points.

Khayri King led Del-Val Charter's long-range assault, scoring 12 of his 18 points from beyond the arc, in a 69-60 victory over visiting West Philadelphia.

Edwin Waters came through with 14 points and seven steals and Adonis Rosario scored 9 of his 11 points in a game-ending 22-8 blitz, as host Lincoln pulled away from Germantown, 50-39.

Tobias Stokes took game-high scoring honors with 23 points while Desmond Drummond and Mikhail Wilson combined for 19 rebounds, highlighting GAMP's home 46-29 triumph over Division E rival Parkway Northwest.

Ahitiff Govan-Wheeler (20 points) and New Media Charter escaped with a 76-72 road win over Aaron Ball (20 points) and Philadelphia Academy Charter.

Central League. Kuity Slanger buried five treys in scoring a team-high 15 points, and Upper Darby converted 9 of 12 free throws down the stretch to hold off host Marple Newtown, 59-57. Ryan Furst topped the Tigers' scoring with 20 points.

Nelson Blickman (13 points) shot 8 for 8 from the foul line in the fourth quarter and Liam Herron scored all of his 8 points in the final period, helping host Radnor finish off Haverford High, 58-47.

Tri-County League. Pater Mayer collected half of his 18 points in the final quarter, sparking a 22-13 run that carried host Woodlynde past West-Mont Christian, 52-47.

Nonleague. Steve Vasturia found his scoring touch in the second half, netting 19 of his 24 points over the final two quarters, Miles Overton contributed 22 points and nine rebounds, and Kyle Thompson drained a go-ahead three-pointer to lift St. Joseph's Prep over Germantown Academy, 70-63, at Philadelphia University.
