Goodman pours in 46 to lift Constitution

Savon Goodman helped Constitution make a bit of history by making some history of his own on Sunday at the fifth annual Villa Classic basketball showcase between Philadelphia and New York City teams at Ben Franklin.

Goodman, a 6-foot-7 senior forward, broke the Constitution (3-4) school record for points in a single game by pouring in 46 during an 80-72 triumph over previously unbeaten Cardozo. Goodman, who had nine dunks and 18 rebounds, broke the mark of 40 points in a game set by Xavier Harris in 2010.

The win also was the first for a city school against a New York opponent in the five-year history of the event.

"It's the fifth year of this tournament," Constitution coach Robert Moore said, "and the kids were excited about being the first Philly team to win. This was a nice way to start the new year."

Goodman scored 14 points in a 21-13 second-quarter run, and was backed by Daiquan Walker's 15 points and nine assists. Cardozo (7-1) had five players in double figures.

Also at Ben Franklin, South Shore (N.Y.) needed an 18-9 fourth-quarter comeback to defeat Imhotep Charter, 56-52. Imhotep's Devin Liggeons had 16 points.

Corey Morris scored a game-high 15 points but Vaux was beaten, 63-38, by Boys and Girls (N.Y.).
