Pa. Girls: Ridley 'D' prevails over L. Merion

With a strong defensive effort in the second half, Ridley turned away host Lower Merion, 38-21, on Friday night in a Central League basketball matchup.

The Green Raiders outscored Lower Merion 21-10 after halftime as they cruised to their third straight win. With the win, Ridley pulled itself even with Lower Merion atop the league standings as both share 6-2 records. Mary Kate Rumbaugh led Ridley with 10 points.

Also in the Central League, Maura O'Connell knocked down each of her four free throws in the final 15 seconds to give Haverford High a 57-53 win over visiting Garnet Valley.

Erica Brown scored five points in overtime for career-high 25 points as Marple Newtown knocked off Harriton, 61-54. Harriton's Katie Melvin scored all of her 24 points after halftime, including a three-pointer to send the game into OT.

Public. Jazlynn Chavis' basket with 7 seconds left proved to be the winner as host Mastbaum squeaked past Simon Gratz, 31-29. Chavis finished with a team-high 11 points.

Freshman point guard Bryce Garrett had a season-high 24 points to go along with her seven steals and 10 assists as host Communications Tech downed Randolph, 45-27.

Central rallied in the fourth quarter behind sophomore guard Kayla Henderson's six points as it turned away visiting rival Girls High, 48-40.

Without sophomore Taylour Jones running the point, Northeast was still able to knock off visiting Frankford, 38-27. Briyah Hill and Lauren Willis both poured in 12 points to mask Jones' absence.

Junior guard Taneka Garvin scored seven of her 12 points in the fourth as Bodine slipped by visiting Del-Val Charter, 39-35.

Brianna Cooley's three with 1 minute left gave host Franklin Learning Center a two-point lead as it edged Ben Franklin, 45-42. Tequila Robinson had a game-high 22 points for Franklin.

Suburban One. Emily Grundman's eight rebounds, three steals and 24 points helped lift Council Rock North past visiting Bensalem, 46-42.

Upper Dublin outscored host Wissahickon 25-12 in the second half en route to a 39-34 win. Taylor Bryant led the way with 16 points and she knocked down seven of her nine free throws in the second half.

Catholic. Tanesha Sutton, Tamyra Laws and Omawumi Rafiu combined for 40 rebounds as Neumann-Goretti topped host Archbishop Ryan, 45-32.

Pioneer. Julianna Hoisington knocked down a pair of three-pointers as Perkiomen Valley easily knocked off host Upper Perkiomen, 43-19.

Friends Schools. Sox Alexander dished out six assists and dropped in eight points as Shipley rolled at Abington Friends, 57-25. Martine Fortune chipped in with a team-high 12 points and eight rebounds.

Catholic Academies. Erin Fenningham dropped in 24 points, grabbed five rebounds, dished five assists and recorded five steals as St. Basil downed visiting Gwynedd-Mercy, 59-49. Fenningham scored 10 points in the third quarter as the Panthers ripped off a 21-9 run.

Inter-Ac. Megan Quinn scored 13 of her 19 points in the second half and Episcopal Academy rallied at Springside, 45-36.

Jaryn Garner grabbed 10 rebounds and dished out five assists as Germantown Academy knocked off visiting Penn Charter, 54-30. Kiernan McCloskey chipped in with 11 rebounds and three three-pointers.

Nonleague. Anna Janisch scored 21 of Kimberton Waldorf's 23 first-half points en route to a 49-46 win at Hallahan. Danielle Madrak knocked down five threes for Hallahan.

Kievanna Lacey's 19 points in the second half were enough for Morrisville to hold off visiting Delco Christian, 48-42.

Emily Gilhool scored all eight of her points after halftime and knocked down three of her four foul shots down the stretch as Chichester downed visiting West Chester Henderson, 48-38.

Freshman guard Emma Dorshimer knocked down six of her eight foul shots in the fourth quarter as host Jenkintown turned away Springfield (Montco), 50-36. She finished with a game-high 17 points.
