Wed. Pa. boys'and girls' roundup: McDevitt caps comeback in OT

Jackson's three from the top of the key with 3.6 seconds left in the fourth helped erase an 11-point deficit. The senior forward finished with a team-high 24 points.

Carl Garner scored seven of his 19 points in the extra period and knocked down five free throws as the Lancers pulled away.

It's the first time in school history that McDevitt has advanced to the state quarterfinals.

Also in the second round, Brandon Austin pulled down 12 rebounds and dropped in 11 points as Imhotep Charter knocked off Elmer L. Myers, 66-51, at Bethlehem Liberty. Austin, a 6-foot-6 junior, is ticketed for Penn State. Khyree Wooten added a team-high 20 points and grabbed six rebounds. Kamani Jordan dished out five assists and scored 11 of his 16 points in the second half to help the Panthers pull away.

Class AAAA. Head Coach Larry Yarbray captured his 100th win and Chester rolled over Norristown, 72-53, at Coatesville in the second round. The Clippers were led by Darius Robinson's 17 points and three three-pointers.

Rondae Jefferson added six assists and eight rebounds. It's the Clippers 55th win in a row, which sets a Delaware County record.

Girls' Basketball

Kahleah Copper poured in 22 points and grabbed eight rebounds as Prep Charter edged Bethlehem Catholic, 49-48, in a PIAA Class AAA second-round game at Spring-Ford. The Rutgers-bound senior shot 8 for 13 from the field and swatted four shots. Ciana Cryor aided the effort with five rebounds and five steals.

Prep Charter shot 47.6 percent from the field in the second half to seal the win.

Also in the second round, Villa Maria dominated in the first half en route to cruising past Greater Nanticoke, 41-20, at Parkland. The Hurricanes held the District 2 opponent to zero points in the second quarter and entered halftime leading by a dozen.

Villa Maria, the top seed from District 1, was led by Lisa Mirarchi's game-high 14 points and five assists. The junior point guard scored six of her points in the second quarter.

Maddie McTigue chipped in with six points and a team-high 10 rebounds.

Villa's defense resulted in no Trojans player reaching double figures. Katie Wolfe led Greater Nanticoke with six points.

Junior point guard Jackie Pierson knocked down seven free throws in the fourth quarter to ice Archbishop Wood's 44-36 second round win over Trinty at Gov. Mifflin Intermediate School.

Senior forward Alex Heck grabbed nine rebounds as the Vikings sealed their third straight trip to the quarterfinals.

Omowumi Rafiu pulled down eight rebounds, Tamyra Laws had seven and Neumann-Goretti downed Allentown Central Catholic, 53-42, at Spring-Ford. Laws finished with 13 points.
