Sophomore twins Steve and Andrew Born crossed the plate in the inning to give the Pioneers the runs they needed for the win. Steve Born finished 3 for 3. Matt Cowell pitched a complete game and struck out nine to pick up the win.
Also in the Central, Joe Sardella scored on a ground ball by Pat Morgan in the top of the eight and Haverford High topped host Ridley, 5-4. Sardella reached base on a double and moved to third on a fielder's choice. John Gorgone went 3 for 3 with an RBI for Ridley.
Billy Greenfield's bat and arm helped lift Radnor over visiting Harriton, 6-2. The 6-foot-3 junior pitched six innings and struck out two. At the plate, he knocked in a pair of runs on two hits. Adam Erkis and Ellis Schaefer each added two hits.
Dan Cahalane and John Brogan drove in runs in the sixth inning as Marple Newtown won at Strath Haven, 8-4.
Catholic. Justin Roman slammed a home run in the fourth inning and recorded three hits to lead Archbishop Carroll over visiting Lansdale Catholic, 7-5.
Eric McGough chipped in with a pair of doubles and a run scored. LC's Kevin Neuman and Rick Norwood led off the game with back-to-back home runs.
Senior lefthander Kyle Slawter notched a complete game and struck out three as Archbishop Ryan won at St. Joseph's Prep, 4-3. Sophomore Nick Centeno led the Raiders with a double and two RBIs.
Suburban One. Jesse Holher fanned 10 to help Upper Dublin edge visiting Upper Moreland, 5-4. Luke Felix recorded four total bases and knocked in two runs.
Chris Loschiavo drove in three runs and scored twice as Upper Merion edged visiting Norristown, 9-8.
Ches-Mont. Ryan Lucas went 2 for 2 and scored a run as West Chester Henderson slipped past host Sun Valley, 2-1. Greg McLaughlin posted the win with four strikeouts in five innings.
Del-Val. Ryan Guth hit a go-ahead two-run single in the top of the ninth and Interboro held on to clip host Chichester, 8-5. Josh Breen earned the win as he pitched the final three innings, allowed a run and struck out two.
Softball
Katie Civitello and Sam McGoldrick led off the fourth inning with inside-the-park homers and host Methacton held on to down Perkiomen Valley, 4-3, in a Pioneer Athletic Conference game. Maddy Lowery struck out the game's final batter, leaving a runner stranded on third base.
Freshman pitcher Sydney Schollenberger picked up her first career win as she went the distance in Pottsgrove's 4-0 win at Phoenixville. She struck out five, walked two and scattered four hits.
Ches-Mont. Lauren Butts fanned 10 and walked three in seven innings as West Chester Henderson topped visiting Sun Valley, 4-2. Kristen Golden doubled in a pair of runs in the fifth.
Paige Giunta's two doubles and three RBIs helped lift Downingtown East over visiting Octorara, 5-3. Tara Senn posted the win with seven strikeouts in five innings.
Kate Poppe struck out 14 batters in seven innings and walked just one as Bishop Shanahan knocked off visiting West Chester Rustin, 5-1. The senior also went 2 for 4 with three RBIs.
Central. Kelsey Collevecchio went 3 for 4 with a pair of RBIs and Courtney Eubanks knocked in two as Ridley topped host Haverford High, 10-0.
Sam Esque fanned seven and walked one as Springfield (Delco) downed visiting Penncrest, 2-0. Taylor Winkelman scored the first run after reaching base on a triple in the fifth. Esque knocked in a run in the sixth.
Nonleague. Lansdale Catholic's Mary Cate Scott walked none and struck out seven in a 8-2 complete-game win over visiting Quakertown. Lexi Mayo led the Crusaders' offense with three hits and three RBIs.
Rachel Holden doubled in two runs in the second inning as Abington cruised at Norristown, 5-2. Celine Farina pitched five innings for the win and struck out one.
Lacrosse
Christy Bond scored three goals, and Rachel Dickerson and Caroline Nichols each scored twice as Penncrest topped Kennett, 11-8, in a nonleague girls game.
Caleigh Foust scored eight times and Jessica Schwab added four assists as Harriton rocked Holy Child (Md.), 17-4, in in the AmLax Challenge in St. Petersburg, Fla.
Boys. Greg Price and Ryan McCormick combined for an 11-save shutout as Holy Ghost Prep blanked Council Rock North, 9-0, in a nonleague game. Michael Major scored three times and Tyler Bielecki added two assists.
Tucker Bentley scored four times, including the game-winner, as George School topped host Conwell-Egan, 5-4. Brett Heffelfinger turned away 11 shots.
