Thurs. S.J. boys' roundup: Bordentown deals Holy Cross first loss

Bordentown scored the winning run on an error in the eighth inning to hand host Holy Cross its first loss, 4-3, on Thursday in a battle for the top spot in Burlington County League Patriot Division baseball.

The 10th-ranked Lancers (10-1 overall, 4-1 division) committed four errors, wasting a home run by Zach Hemler.

Clarke Laba and Austin Papp combined for five hits and three RBIs for the Scotties (6-1, 5-0).

In another Burlington County League matchup, Marty McDonald scattered four hits and batted 2 for 3 with two RBIs to highlight Cinnaminson's 5-1 home win over Medford Tech.

Cape-Atlantic. Chris Caprio's two-run single sparked a four-run, sixth-inning rally that made Hammonton a 5-2 winner at eighth-ranked St. Augustine.

Justin Smith struck out eight in going the distance and joined Bobby Barbieri in batting 2 for 3 for the Blue Devils.

Chris Scarlett (3 for 3, 3 RBIs) backed the three-hit shutout by Kurt Hamby, as host Holy Spirit blanked Pleasantville, 6-0.

Olympic. Mike Marchitto starred for seventh-ranked Eastern on the mound and at the plate, fanning nine in pitching a three-hit shutout and going 2 for 2 with four RBIs, leading the host Vikings to a 10-0 whitewash of Lenape.

Colonial. Mike McLaughlin's solo home run in the first inning started Haddonfield on its way to a 6-4 victory at Overbrook.

Nonleague. Rocco Mazzero struck out 11 in pitching a two-hit shutout for his first varsity win, and Mike Maldonado (2 for 4, 3 RBIs) provided offensive support as host Glassboro blanked Lindenwold, 10-0.

Colin McDonald, Aaron Bennett, and Jack Goracy scored four goals apiece and combined for seven assists as Rancocas Valley improved to 8-0 by routing host Lawrence, 18-0, in a Colonial Valley Conference mismatch.

Olympic. West Deptford goalie Brendan Gill stopped 30 shots, and Zach Kaestner and Mike Reardon each had a hat trick in a 7-5 home win over Gloucester Catholic.
