Shawnee edges Cherry West in baseball

The Olympic Conference Patriot Division showdown was decided when McCollum singled and stole second, and Rob Beachy's ground ball resulted in an error and the winning run.

Kevin Boswick (3-0) pitched a complete game with six strikeouts and four walks for the win.

Tri-County. Clearview's Jay Gorman earned his first varsity pitching win by striking out 11 Clayton batters and allowing one hit in four innings of the host Pioneers' 10-0 win.

Two RBIs each by Joe Brewin and Ed Anderson guided Delsea to a 6-5 triumph over visiting GCIT.

Burlington County. Taylor Zackman dominated Bordentown's 3-1 victory over visiting Willingboro with a single, double and two runs scored as a hitter, and 13 strikeouts as the winning pitcher.

Cape-Atlantic. Buena, ranked No. 5 in South Jersey by The Inquirer, clipped visiting Lower Cape May, 2-0, as Bryant Nelson scored on Taylor Cheli's sacrifice fly and also scored on Dominick Lopez's ground out.

Lacrosse

Macki Groves scored three goals to reach 21 for the season and 100 for her career, aiding Millville's 18-10 Cape-Atlantic League girls' win over visiting Egg Harbor Township. Corrine Etter paced the Bolts with 10 goals.

Absegami's Rebecca Sartorio also reached the 100-goal plateau with three scores in a 17-8 loss at Mainland. The Mustangs got five goals and three assists by Anna Gordon.

Cinnaminson's first goal in an 18-13 Burlington County League win at New Egypt was the 100th career goal by Carleigh MacWilliams, who scored four in the game. Sarah Ritter scored the first two goals of the second half to put the Pirates ahead to stay.

Shannon Nugent's four goals helped Shawnee knock off host Clearview, 11-7, in the Olympic Conference.

Emily Whalin registered a career-best six assists to go with a pair of goals in helping West Deptford get past visiting Sterling, 17-8.

Lenape's 19-9 win over visiting Cherry Hill East featured Emily Duffey's six goals and Carly Walters' five goals.

Boys. Two goals each by Nick Barbieri, Brad Iula and Zach Wallace steered Bishop Eustace past host Woodstown, 6-3, in the Olympic Conference.

Softball

Clearview's Dominique Dorris hit a two-run homer in the first inning and a grand slam in the second, igniting a 13-1 Tri-County Conference win over visiting Woodstown. Dorris also tripled, and Shannon Puthe knocked in three runs.

Olympic. Five runs in the first inning plus Taylor Gilligan's three-run homer in the fourth powered Shawnee past visiting Cherry Hill West, 8-1. Alexis Gordon went 4 for 4 and Renegades pitcher Jackie Pezzato struck out nine.

Cherokee's Bianca Iamurri singled in pitcher Tricia Griffin in the fifth inning and Iamurri scored on Gina Gryniuk's sacrifice fly to give the host Chiefs enough offense for a 2-1 win over Cherry Hill East.

Cape-Atlantic. Brittany Scott struck out eight Wildwood Catholic hitters in a two-hit shutout and also went 3 for 3 with two RBIs as host Buena prevailed, 10-0.

Middle Township's 8-7 win over visiting Lower Cape May ended when Taylor Franchville singled home Sadie Robertson with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh.
