Mon. Pa. boys' roundup: University City blanks Randolph

The junior did not walk a batter in the gem, and made the only two fielding plays required all game by himself, inducing ground balls to the mound and throwing the ball to first baseman Nakeel Green.

Demetrius Rivers and Eric Griffin each drove in a pair of runs. The Jaguars scored twice in the fourth inning before adding a run in each the sixth and seventh innings.

In other Public League action, Prep Charter's Joe Suppa knocked a bases-loaded single in the seventh inning and host Prep Charter topped Philadelphia Electrical, 3-2.

Central. Joe Sheeran went 3 for 3 with a run scored and one RBI as host Springfield (Delco) edged Harriton, 4-3. Matt Gallo picked up the win with four strikeouts and three walks in five innings.

Ned Miller struck out six and walked three in seven innings to lift Lower Merion at Ridley, 2-0. Peter Sicilino went 1 for 3 and picked up an RBI. Nate DeMarcantonio struck out six and walked one in the loss.

Penncrest scored a pair of unearned runs in the top of the seventh to knock off host Marple Newtown, 4-2. Billy Buckwalter scored on an error for a 3-2 lead and finished 2 for 3 with three RBIs.

Suburban One. Billy McFarland notched seven strikeouts and fanned one batter to help Wissahickon turn away visiting Cheltenham, 4-2. Greg McDonough added a triple and a run batted in.

Kevin Belskie went 3 for 4, hit a pair of doubles and drove in four runs as Norristown downed host Upper Merion, 12-7. Pat Campion addded a double and three runs scored, and Kevin McGinley also hit a double and scored three times with two RBIs.

Catholic. Sean Rogers and Scott Grinnan each had two hits and two RBIs and host Cardinal O'Hara topped St. Joseph's Prep, 5-3. Grinnan added a double and one run scored.

Corey Baiada went 3 for 4 with two RBIs as La Salle rocked visiting Archbishop Ryan, 9-0. Mike Piscopo added two RBIs, including a homer in the second inning.

Ches-Mont. Brandon Smethurst doubled in J. B. Capretta in the bottom of the seventh to lift host Avon Grove over Great Valley, 8-7. Toby Fiala posted the pitching win, and Ryan Singley added a pair of runs scored and two RBIs.

Tennis

Sam Rudoski and Daniel Tiang scored easy singles wins to help Masterman clinch the Public League Class AA team title with a 5-0 win over Bodine at Fairmount Park. Rudoski won 6-0, 6-0, at first singles and Tiang won 6-0, 6-0, at second singles.

Also in the Public League playoffs, Central and Northeast used dominating performances to capture berths in the Class AAA title match.

Central downed visiting Lincoln, 5-0, as Jacob Spivack won 6-1, 6-2 at first singles. Spivack's brother, Daniel, won, 6-1, 7-6, 7-5, at second singles.

Host Northeast topped Washington, 5-0. Monte Dunson won, 6-1, 6-1, at first singles and Samikr Akif won, 6-1, 6-0, at second singles.

District 1. Holy Ghost Prep advanced to the Class AA District 1 team semifinals for the third straight year by dropping visiting Church Farm, 5-0. Eric Ciccotelli teamed with Jon Purowitz to win, 6-0, 6-0, at first doubles.

In Class AAA, Thomas Vernie scored a 7-5, 6-2 win at first singles and Lower Merion eased past visiting Upper Dublin, 5-0, in the first round.
