Sarah Yannes scored the first two goals of the game and Holy Cross bolted to an early 7-1 lead on Tuesday, opening the NJSIAA South Jersey Group 1 girls' lacrosse tournament with a 19-8 win over visiting Robbinsville.

The balanced Lancers got goals from 11 players, led by Grace Steel with five and Anna Baranowski with three. Yannes finished with two goals.

Bishop Eustace also cruised through its first-round game, bouncing visiting Moorestown Friends, 23-8.

Kristen Kelbon poured in eight goals, Mikaela Gekas-Robinson had four, Morgan Wright contributed three goals and four assists, and Erin Logue posted two goals and four assists for the Crusaders.

Also in Group 1, New Egypt goalie Danielle Solinski turned aside a dozen St. Rose shots in the host Warriors' 16-6 win.

New Egypt's Courtney Natalicchio had five goals and three assists, and Emma Bunce chipped in with four goals.


Joe Gatto scored from second base on an overthrow with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning to bring a sudden end to St. Augustine's 5-4 Cape-Atlantic League win over visiting Egg Harbor Township.

Gatto, who pitched five innings before giving way to Jim Ianni and Mike Elfreth, went 3 for 4 with two runs scored. EHT's Zack Meyer also rapped three hits.

Burlington County. John Adryan and Chris Burns had back-to-back doubles in the third inning, and Adryan lofted a game-winning two-run homer in the seventh as Holy Cross clipped host Bordentown, 4-2.

Boys' Tennis

Moorestown advanced to Wednesday's South Jersey Group 3 sectional semifinals with a 4-1 quarterfinal win over visiting Pinelands.

Hamza Husain and Dan Schafhauser posted a 6-1, 6-1 win at first doubles for the top-seeded Quakers (23-5).
